Rosewood vs maple fretboard?

Rosewood, because the first bass I bought had a maple neck and MF sent me the wrong bass. The rosewood has grown on me though...

It depends on what sound you like best. Play both of them and decide which one you like best.

MY '02 Precision is the classic 3-tone w/rosewood & tort. It sounds like a Fender Precision. I wanted that look.

Before I got my Precision V (2010), I really wanted black w/a rosewood FB because of looks only. Fender didn't/doesn't offer it that way so I bit & ordered it with the maple FB.

It is still a very nice bass. Tone-wise, they're both different.

Just get the bass that feels & sounds the best to you.

My perception has always been that rosewood is
better.

But, of the basses I have tried and bought, maple
out numbers the rosewood 2 to 1.

Personally, when playing by my self, I like rosewood.
I don't know why.

When playing with people, I like maple.

The maple seems to be heard better in the mix.

When I was younger, I dug in at times. I would go
from soft and easy to digging the finish off a bass.
The maple neck would growl and moan in a way
that seemed nice in a band, but it would sound
flaky to me if I played that way alone.

My favorite bass has a maple neck and has been in
the shop for two months now.

I'm about to pull my hair out!!!

Its completely personal pref. I dont like the feel of maple boards. And pref fretboards that dont need finish on them. I prefer rosewood, ebony, and wenge for fretboard choices. Though many do like maple boards.

Maple is infinitely better in every single possible situation and way.
The merest touch will make you more virile and your masculinity will shoot off the charts (something to watch out for though, ladies).

But, it is still entertaining to me.

You know, if you dig up an old

I ain't the only one that likes it.

Bedsides, it is better than the flood

Haha... there is a certain amount of what colour the bass is that influences me. I have an arctic white MIM J Bass, and bought the rosewood version to give it some character... on the other hand, if it had been black I'd have probably gone for the Maple.

Normally, there is a lot of difference in FEEL, but little in SOUND. I prefer a maple neck on a P Bass, as it is easier in my opinion, to slide up and down the wide neck on it... also easier for vibrato and slapping; on the other hand, I prefer rosewood on the J bass, as the necks are slimmer and I think it contributes to the warm trebely sound of them.
