roto 77's=just me or?

bought some Steve Harris versions of their 77 jazz flats,,prior i had Chromes in 100's(senior moment i forgot the PN),the 110 E is fine(i mean some folks say it's a `rope i wouldn't want to play',,but it (keeps) seeming to me i'm not getting a balance across the strings;80's copy of a P with a great neck and the 77's seem to need more tension to tune as well (especially the D,G strings man! torques the neck right up:scowl:)but my issue is it's like when i `drive' my amp or add a pedal the E string always seems fuzzy(sounding) or the D.G too bright(depending on EQ),,yeah! like one of those da--ed geetars!!!:D

so,,i'm not TRULY bitching but it just doesn't seem as sweet/fun as a set of Chromes overall,:D,and not NEAR as smooth a finish,almost cobby in comparison(can you say`pick slide'?)zzzzzz,but;i answered MY question and bought a set(now i know);)

i'm making them work while i plan on another string purchase,so,what's next in the world of flatties?:help:

thought i'd jump back on here,,,lots of head changing this evening=hypertension pills,another ale;),handed a grandson,dinner,played a bit more but the weather also turned cold out in the shopyadayada but need to put this post into perspective!:D

been playing with a Behringer ODrive pedal and my old TNT amp,don't see as i need it just PRE drive the amp up,i mean this ISN'T about sitting in a corner with a set of headphones on is it?,,crank it up!,so i been exploring the boundaries of my ancient Peavey TNT amp(yes before headphone capability unless of course you only have one ear left,or is that the right one?:D) so yeah!,,9'd out!,,,,,,(and yes i bought my commas at the 99cent clearance center:D),,

i want THUMP,THUD, THWACK, AND TWINCK when i play my P,,,BASS:bassist: not anything else other than some grind:eek:

suffice to say the Chromes i made love to(and they loved me back),these ROTOS,well=just gettin' by/i'll figger it out;)=PEACE:cool:

I'll also buy a set of these RS77's sometime in the future, as the last couple of sets I've owned have been rather nice. The Chromes I own right now are smoother, yes, and the tone isn't all bad, just that I don't dig the way the D & G strings are a tad "brighter" than the E & A. And the Rotos are still quite a bit brighter out-of-the-pack. Even so, these are rather nice strings and if I had a 2nd bass though I'd probably keep these Chromes on, sadly it isn't so (yet). :cool:

Not sure about the tension though; right now my gauge is 40-100 in these Chromes and was thinking of a 45-105 with the Rotos. If I was crazy enough, could even try the 50-110, which would probably be ridiculously stiff but at least that'd enable a super-low action and more... rough touch without worrying about fret buzzing etc.

How bad is the tension of the SH set, anyway? Anything a novice/newbie bassist like me could handle? :smug:

There are same gauge as the heavy gauge 77s, not the normal, the SH set has the different silk if that makes a difference ;). The price difference must depend on where you buy them. Here you can get them at the same price, actually the 77 set is more expensive than the SH set on some sites.

Yeah, I kinda' misinterpreted that one, thought he was referring to the RS77LE's instead of the normal ones and saying the SH ones were still heavier gauge then those. But oh well, my mistake... :smug:

Here the SH set is somewhat more expensive than the normal Rotos, so I'll probably keep to the normal strings in the future. Will rock the hell out of these D'Addarios first, though.
