Rotosound Swing bass 66 .40 .60 .80 .100 string set

I want to give Rotos a try. I want to get the .40 .60 .80 .100 gauge strings, because I know they will fit my bass without any sort of modification.

How do these sound? I'd like to get a Geddy type of growl with these strings.

They are bright and zingy and they remain that way for a long time. That's precisely why I don't use them - I like the thump of flats much better.

I love the Rotosound swing roundwound strings for their growly and zingy sound. IMHO, Ernie Ball stainless steel roundwounds stay bright and zingy even longer than the Rotos.

I used to use rotos almost exclusively when I was playing more hard rock since they are great, durable strings that retain a lot of their brightness after being broken. I found that they were tough on my fingers because back in those days I had a heavier touch than I do now. Give them a try - they are not that expensive and if bright is what you're after you will probably fall in love with them.

The model I used to use had an exposed core that went over the bridge saddles.

Cool! I liked the EB nickel roundwounds I have now, but they are starting to sound a little too dead for me (which is why I've been wanting to change strings).

Rotosound Swing Bass 66 RN's coupled with a Geddy Lee Jazz Bass will definitely growl, depending on your attack. What kind of bass do you play? 45 - 105's fit just fine on my Geddy. Agree though that they will eat into your fingers, again, depending on your attack. Sometimes it hurts so much I use a pick for awhile.

A MIM Fender Jazz bass. I purchased it new, and the stock strings were 45 -100's. I think I read somewhere that I needed to do some sort of modification to fit a .105 E string on this bass.

In a worst-case scenario, you might have to slightly file out the nut slots. But other than a set-up there's nothing more you really need to do. Do you like the 45-100's? No need to deviate from something you already like.

The D and G in that set would be better if they were 45 and 65 IMO.
The set you're asking about is on most of my basses here and on 3 Greco Les Paul clones because the necks cannot take the "normal" set. It would be nice if Roto let you "build your own set".

Yes, I do like the 45-100's, but I looked on Rotosound's website any they don't make any.

Bass Strings Online has them...you can put toghether whatever set you want!
