Rounds for String Through Mustang?

I've been gifted a Squier Classic Vibe Mustang by my Wife (she rocks) and I want to get some new rounds for it, but I'm having a really hard time finding some that will fit with the string through bridge.

The only strings I've found locally apparently won't fit and honestly I'm not the biggest fan of D'Addario rounds.

Is there a master list of strings that fit :roflmao:

"String though" as in top-load, not thru-body, correct?

Most manufacturers' "short scale" with a winding length (ball end to silk/taper) of 32" - 32.75" should fit.

That would include D'Addario, Fender, Ernie Ball, Dunlop, GHS and La Bella.

Or, DR's "short scale" is 33.75" in winding length, so that should be long enough.

What specific type of rounds are you looking for? Nickel-plated steel? Stainless Steel? Bright or mellow?

Definitely not steels.

My faves for my Precision were the Sadowsky Blue Nickel rounds but haven’t been able to find anything similar and medium scale

If memory serves, the TI Jazz Flats short scale option is actually of a similar length to another manufacturers medium scale and would work. They are expensive in the US, and I have no idea what the market is like in AUS, full disclosure.

BTW, I just reread the title and you specified "round". My fault! Here is where I look when I am interested in these types of things. It is not my intention to violate any forum rules, so forgive me if I do!

Shoulda-Woulda-Coulda and abstract quotings of manufacturer's specs don't make it on a string-through-body instrument. Let us all repeat the mantra:

1) Measure from the ball to the tuner side of the nut (for string-through-body, you may have to mark this point on the E string with a sharpie and take the string off the bass to measure);
2) Measure from the ball to the middle of the E-string tuner;
3) pick a string whose speaking length, ball to where the silk or taper starts, is between these two measurements.

That said, the GHS Balanced Pure Nickels sound great on a friend's Supro Huntington II, and from my observations of how far above the nut the string goes before the silk starts, then GHS short scale strings may work on a string-through-body Mustang bass.

But first, MEASURE, MEASURE, MEASURE!!!

PS - are you sure you don't want the best set of strings for a string-through-body Mustang: Labella 760-MUS flats?
