So I was routing my truss rod channel and I guess my depth gauge on my router took a nap because I ended up routing a channel so deep for the first 6 inches near the nut that when I hold the neck up I can see light coming through the paper thin wood that remains. Can I fix this of must I scrap the project? Any advice would be helpful thank you so much all.

Yes, It can be fixed. You can do 1 of 2 things here:
1) Route the entire channel to the same depth and fill it back up, by gluing another piece of wood in place of the channel and do it over, just make sure it's tight enough.
2) I've seen this done by Wayne Charvel. He does it to most of the 'Wayne guitars" that they make.....
mill out the entire slot all the way through and cut a piece, sort of like a "skunk" stripe, to glue in the back of the slot. It is paramount that if you do this though, that it's tight enough, that you will need to piece to actually be knocked in with a mallet.

Awesome! Thanks so much I will definitely give that second tip a go. That seems to be the easiest way for me plus I have some left over Walnut that would make a nice skunk stripe.

Looks like his site, doesn't have the video available right now,but he did have some videos up, where he mills out the whole slot and puts a stripe in the back of the neck. Probably, the vid will be up some time soon, just google 'Wayne Guitars'.
At the same time, don't make the filler piece so tight that it splits the remaining wood during insertion, or (as happened to someone here recently on a similar repair) a minute or two after it's in.

+1, Perhaps you could take a little off the top edges that'll sit inside the channel, but hell yes, not too tight by all means.

I once had a loose collet that dropped the bit through some really expensive wood.
Ditto.
The whole getup was new, to boot. Tightened up pretty good, but, I dunno, it just dropped the bit!
Routers- Either your best friend or your most loathed enemy. I always feel like I should say a prayer before I start, nothing worse than lifting up a templet expecting a clean precise route to see it's something other than that.
