Royal baby name pool.

I can't never understand that euphoria about one baby birth. On same the same day 1000 child was born .... no one mentions about them. Equality? No such a thing on this planet...

It's not that deep, nor particularly logical. The warm fuzziness of celebrity popularity. No doubt the other 1000 are just as cute and just as much of a blank slate as a newborn as to what he will become. But in the western world, people thrive on pop culture. The other 1000 aren't plastered all over the media. It's an outlet from the daily grind and reality of life.

It seems to have been a while since there was an original royal name, so it'll probably be something that's been a prior king's name. Edward, Charles, Richard, Henry, William, George, James.

They could go further back to the Anglo-Saxon and Danish kings for inspiration though. In that case, my vote is for Cnut. :)

A back of the envelope bit of maths:

1. HRH Liz 2nd is 87. Lets saw she bows out at 92. (2018)

2. Prince of Wales is 64. He takes the throne at 69 and stays on until hes 90 (2039)

3. Duke of Cambridge is 31. He takes the throne in 2039 at age 57 and stays on until he's 90.

4. Prince X is 0. He takes the throne in 2072 at age 59.

I was born in 1978...the likelihood I will still be alive when this Prince takes the throne is pretty low.

and I love Scottish history. Braveheart ain't it!

Have you ever been to Rosslyn Chapel?

And I'm amazed how interested the rest of the world are in this baby. If it's that interesting, get your own royals. You can have ours if you want.

Can you imagine if the POTUS was having a baby? There'd be way more coverage in the US than we're getting over this.

I haven't been there, no - most of my time in Scotland's been in the highlands and islands. Plenty still to explore.

I wonder if a presidential baby would get as much coverage? After all, there's no hereditary angle to it. Okay, maybe with the Bushes... :)

Both Tony Blair and David Cameron have had children whilst Prime Minister - they definitely attracted less interest than a new heir to the throne.

Maybe in the UK the people are interested in the hereditary angle, but that wouldnt explain the interest (of those interested) over here in the states. Its about the pop culture.
Our President, well First Lady, having a baby would rate way high up on the pop culture scale over here. Just look at all the attention given to Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, and little baby North West. I dont give a dame about them, but the pop culture is so blatant that I know what that babys name is.

Simply because you are not members of the commonwealth, you cannot understand nor comment in it as you have here. You are an outsider and this kind of opinion carries no weight.

The cult of celebrity you cite in which you are including the British Monarchy only exists in countries that are not Commonwealth. To many in the Commonwealth it has historical significance and unifying sentiment that parallels patriotism. The derogatory comments from outsiders I read here would suggest that many of you think that your country owns this Internet forum, when in fact people from around the world that can muster some semblance of written English participate. It belongs to all of us. Unlike the Monarchy which doesn't affect you, doesn't concern you, but should garner as much respect from you as does your respect for your own executive branch.

The new prince shall be an enchanter and his friends shall call him Tim.
