I know this is not live, but it is cool to see an old clip of Bobby Watson with Rufus. He was actually a P-bass guy most of the time. I know he was playing one when I saw him live back in 1977.

Chaka Khan was pretty hot back in the day too!

Chaka was always hot, not one of my favorite Rufus songs, but awesome playing. Have been listening to a lot of the 70's stuff, Chic and Gap Band lately, EWF, Ohio Players, Trammps, etc.....love this music. It was real and everyone was original, had their own feel and sound. Very different from today.....much better

I wore that record out back in the day. I remember there was a real funky tune on the B side of that 45. Def one of my favorites. And dang, Chaka looked good! Whew! She kills me with that little butt twitch she does!

Bobby Watson is like the guy from the Gap Band in terms of being an underrated, but great player. Like Wilson from the Gap Band, Watson was one of the first people I noticed detuning
like he did on Michael Jackson's Rock Wit You or as he did throughout Angela and Rene's Street Called Desire album.

The funny thing is that Bobby Watson's sound on his Precision sounds better than that Fodera he has now. In all fairness, I know that clip does not have anywhere near the recording quality of the classic records that he players on. Still, I know what it is like to want new gear, and to go for new sounds. Most of all, it is just good to see him looking healthy and playing.

I similarly prefer Anthony Jackson's tone on his Jazz back in the days of playing on Chaka's solo albums to his Fodera tone now.
