RUSH Clockwork Angels

You guys have heard the rumors about them touring with an orchestra for this go-round, right? Anyone know if that's going to be true? I've seen an orchestra at Verizon (the venue they play at when they come to Atl.) before, so I can see it happening.
I have heard that rumor, but my jury is still out to whether I like the idea. Maybe we'll know more tomorrow.

and as to the orchestra, I think it would be incredible. There's a ton of backround synth-string kind of stuff throughout the guys' music, and there's apparently going to be some pretty prominent strings on CA, so I think it would fit quite well. Plus, think of the incredible body of sound (in addition to what they already have going).

Well if any band could pull off playing with a orchestra i guess it would be RUSH. With that said i hope it does not happen, every attempt a rock band does at that = CORNY!! RUSH is a 3 piece power trio that always sounds EPIC!
I think it makes sense to play with an orchestra if you had an orchestra add strings to your album.
I would rather have real musicians at the show playing those parts than Ged or Alex just hitting a trigger.
Since CA apparently had string arrangements added to it, I'm all for it. If they choose to add string arrangements to other songs is another matter. But their artistic choices haven't disappointed me yet, so I'm open to the idea.

I can agree with that. I just cringe at the thought of cramming string parts in Tom Sawyer or YYZ ... ect
I tend to agree...it's just corny in most cases. However, I feel it can work sometimes if done right. For instance:

Sounds amazing on that Zeppelin song. Not sure that it'll work for Rush though.
yeah it depends how it's done, or maybe more importantly - who does it. Metallica with strings was cheeseball, but that's to be expected. I agree that Page and Plant did it well and I think Rush could do it right too.
It really all depends on who arranges the strings. If the arranger is a really in-tune Rush fan too, and knows what he's doing, it will be brilliant.
And to give credit where credit is due, Led Zepplin had John Paul Jones doing the original string arrangements on their tunes, and he's no slouch either!

I saw Yes on their Magnification Tour.
They were using local orchestras on their various stops. It basically took the place of Wakeman's keyboard parts.
When they came to my city, they used our locals.
It was OK I guess, but the band was way louder than the string section. You could barely hear it. They didnt have much rehearsal time with them either.
Yes music lends itself much better to the use of an orchestra
than does Rush's music IMO.
I'm not too keen on the idea. I hope it's just a rumor.
I just hope Clockwork Angels isnt too "over-produced"

I am definitely planning on going to one of their concerts this year. I think having an orchestra tour with them would be awesome, but I agree with BowserBass, I don't want an orchestra to play during all the old, non-CA songs.
Point taken...maybe since their late '80's stuff... But an orchestra...shheesh..
