Rush Limbaugh and the Rams

I love a definitive statement like that. Leaves less wiggle room.

Here they are. Pick at least one or two that are fake:

1. "Take that bone out of your nose and call me back"

2. "Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?".

source: www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/limbaugh.asp

3. "Spike, if you're going to do that, let's complete the education experience. You should tell them that they should loot the theater, and then blow it up on their way out."

I'll use Burk as my source on this one... he says he actually heard it when it was made.

source: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showpost.php?p=8110649&postcount=286

This should be good.
:smug:

And if Burk lied? Naaaa no one out there lies right?

I don't think he's cut out to own a NFL team, but I do think he's the balls! He's absolutely right about everything ;)

Sorry, but I must respectfully disagree. I think he should be allowed to own a team. He loves the game and is very knowledgeable about it. The group trying to buy the team is just trying to avoid controversy which would jeopardize their bid. The NFL doesn't want all this negative publicity. It has nothing to do with character or morals. You can tell by looking at the other more recent owners added to the league. And in my opinion, he is not always right about everything. Even rush says that he is only accurate 99.1% of the time! ;)

The ongoing MSU opinion audit poll updated it to 99.3% last friday. I'd love to see how this polling works, personally. Thanks to my day job I've got a sudden and intense interest in how university research projects are done.

I think he'd make a great owner, out of shear love of the game. I've said it already, but I don't think this is Rush's last NFL bid. I do think that he and his prospective co-owners will handle it differently next time, though.

Yes, the time to let people know there is an a-hole in the group is after they've acquired the team, not before. That seems to work out just fine for some teams and the NFL administrators.

Like the Redskins sueing down-and-out season ticket holders.

I'm a little confused here...

Throughout about half of the thread I've repeatedly read that Rush being labeled a racist doesn't matter, because he thinks that "reverse-racism" happens all the time, and nobody talks about it, and the other half of the time its a very serious character assassination?

Can you guys just pick and choose, please?

It's not worth it... Somehow people have been mislead into thinking racism when it comes from the mouth of Rush is "satire".

;)

Snopes, much like wiki, is "hit or miss".

You've missed.

Back it up with in-context audio.

And by the way, your own link doesn't back up the listed quotes. Many are fake, and others are out of context.

You are smarter and fairer than this.

Like I said before, this cat has much to be held accountable for that is real. Why bother with BS?

Then why don't you simply answer the frickin' question: which ones are MADE UP?

:D

It's funny to have some of the folks telling me I'm smarter than this or that. I'll keep my thoughts on their intelligence to myself;). In the meantime, ask yourself how smart this is: I posted the Snopes link in reference to WHAT I QUOTED. You point out that it doesn't back up the other quotes, WHICH I ALREADY KNEW, as if that meant something... because according to you, Snopes is hit or miss. Did you decide that they're not backing up the other quotes was a HIT and their verification of mine was a MISS?

Too funny. I don't know if you're smarter than that or not.

And now you're calling me gullible. Answer the question or keep drinking the drink. Your choice. Show why Snopes is a miss on the first two. Show why Burk didn't actually witness what he clearly said he did.

Heh, for someone who knows people who like Rush and listen to him, I've heard him talked with out any possibility of "quote out of context". Every show I listened to leave a very bad taste in my mouth. Whats scary, he is very good at brainwashing people, he'll say something and people will take it as word of God.

OK, Brad, I'll bite IF you answer my question. Why is Rush not suitable but we have a current minority owner who claimed "N****s are like P****y holes. Please find something Rush said that was near as contemptible as that comment? I'm waiting.......

The other two quotes you gave were never sourced to Rushes show. He claims they occurred when he was a part time shock jock/DJ back in the 70's. And he apologized for both of them years ago. So your going to keep someone from exercising their ability to purchase an NFL team because of two comments they made while they were in college and have already apologized for? I doubt anyone here would be able to purchase an NFL team if held to those standards.

Hey Burk, is this a straw man?

Yes it is, So what? But it doesn't change the fact that those opposed to Rush haven't made their case, including you. You've got two quotes from the 70's and one quote which was far more an indictment of Spike Lee's politics then any particular race. The fact is, the controversy here is based on ad homonym attacks and straw men made up by Rushes political opponents who I can only conclude aren't intellectually capable of actually engaging Rushes Ideas and defending their own position. It's so much easier to just call someone controversial or racist then actually debate them. ;)

Edit: why did you quote my question to bassrique as if it were addressed to you?

OK, Brad, I'll bite IF you answer my question. Why is Rush not suitable but we have a current minority owner who claimed "N****s are like P****y holes. Please find something Rush said that was near as contemptible as that comment? I'm waiting.......

Oooh, me first. How grade school.

Just kind of kidding;). Here's my answer... it's a repeat since I already said it in this thread:

"I don't care if he gets part ownership in a club".

That's a direct quote from me and I can verify that too.

So why would you expect me to explain why he's not suitable when I already said otherwise? You'll need to ask the people who feel that way for clarification. And now quid pro quo.

Your turn.
:D

The other two quotes you gave were never sourced to Rushes show.

Oooh, now I somehow said this was on his current show? When did I say that, burk? Does this moving the bar tactic work very often?

What I said was about what Rush Limbaugh has said, period. Because people were talking about that. You can explain why you're now trying the tactic of saying "well, he didn't say it on "this show" but I'd hope you'd realize exactly how lame that is. It's called an excuse and an extremely weak one at that. It's also referred to as wiggling.

Yes, I am going to keep someone from exercising their ability to blah blah blah... again, I clearly said otherwise but you can't seem to follow that.

As far as apologizing, I've seen other poor statements from others who subsequently apologized yet some people never drop it. Double standard? Nah.

And you seem to be saying that he indeed say what I quoted. Don't tell that other guy.

Yes it is, So what?

Because while you love to point out strawmen, here's an actual one you seem to have ignored. No surprise there, it's from "your side".
:D

I have made my case. I can't help if people are so worked up they can't even understand what that case is.
:hyper:

Brad, in actuality this is the real problem. Like most of Rush's critics you've never listened to him for any period of time. But the people who make help to form your opinions tell you he's racist. So you go to some dubious news source, don't even bother to read their own commentary on the origins of the quotes and use them to attack him. The sad fact is, you believe Rush is a racist because someone told you to believe it. If you have character, you will now do the right thing and check him out for yourself because your opinion of him is anything but informed. As a rule I try to avoid having strong opinions of people I'm uninformed about.
Interesting observation, I guess that sort of behaviour that those are displaying with regard to Rush Limbaugh would be akin to criticising Michael Moore movies without having watched them.

No, the real problem is that Limbaugh sycophants love to pull stuff like this from their nether regions. I've heard plenty of this clown over the years and my wife practically keeps her radio glued to AM630 so I get to listen to your Messiah el Rushbo, Mark Levin (even worse than Limbaugh IMO... and even more hysterical) and Sean "Great American" Hannity far more often than you can seem to be able to comprehend.

Now a thinking person would certainly ask themself "Should I make a proclamation about another person's exposure to something, considering I don't know squat about it?". And they'd certainly answer "No, because that would appear to be not very bright and easily shot down". Yet you did it anyway. Shirley you are smarter than that.
:D

I've easily listened to over 100 hours of his shows over the years... of course that's not enough to get the "nuances" of this sledgehammer voice of the real America. Nobody had to tell me anything about him and people like you who keep saying ignorant things like that hardly help whatever case it is that you think you're making. Unlike people like you, I don't get my core opinions fed to me through the radio (another one of Rush's repeat jokes, which probably has an uncomfortable amount of truth to it).

I use the radio for weather and traffic.

In any event, let's just hope Rush doesn't make any sudden stops. For you guys' sake.
;)
