Rush Limbaugh and the Rams

I agree with everyone that says the NFL should not be excluding Limbaugh. He has the money and the desire and should be allowed to join that club of owners. After all, excluding someone from membership because of their political views and statements made is almost as bad as excluding someone because of their gender. That's why I'm certain that everyone defending Rush in this thread was also in favor of Martha Burk gaining membership at Augusta National Golf Club.

That's different... everyone knows girlz have cooties.

I brought up the fact that you didn't address any of the stuff he did say. And you still aren't. Not as much straw there as you hoped for. Now you've changed direction again instead of answering directly. Why?

Defend the stuff he did say.

What stuff, Brad, I see nothing in the things he's said that need defending? Please give me specifics. There are statements of his I agree with, and some I don't, some are obviously satire, some are serious. But again that is not the issue. He wasn't accused of making indefensible statements, he was accused specifically of being racist. And yet no one seems to want to make the case.

I remember applying for a job once. I was well qualified, experienced, had professional references, and a proven track record. I did not get it because the people making the decision did not feel I had the image they wanted to project. Just because we want something in life does not mean we automatically get it. You don't have to defend Limbaugh for the image he has himself created. Many opportunities in life are subjective, and that's the bottom line.

That is the issue that you and I are discussing. You clearly stated that in your first post to me... "two separate issues". Remember?

The point is simply about racist statements. And before I get into another "the problem with Black people" thing with you (I won't and I'd apprecitate it if you wouldn't), much of which I know you agree with Rush on, explain the non-racial intent behind his "Take that bone out of your nose and call me back" statement or this gem "Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?". Or this: ""Spike, if you're going to do that, let's complete the education experience. You should tell them that they should loot the theater, and then blow it up on their way out." Because that's what Black people do.

Nothing racist there, right? Of course not. Here's what I anticipate... you bringing up other people as rebuttal instead of dealing with this question. Prove me wrong this time.

How do you separate the two? Do you take the stance that the idea that he's racist is not based on what he's said over the years?

That makes no sense.

Not going to elaborate.

But, I will say:

To get the most bang for their bucks, advertisers depend on sophisticated polling techniques to identify the demographics of an audience. I listen to Rush and all I hear are commercials for 1) a weight reduction substance; 2) a cure for baldness; 3) erectile dysfunction remedies/prostate remedies; 4) easy solutions to get out of debt; 5) dealing with major debt to the IRS. That coupled with his anti-social behaviors gave me my opinion.

/ :)

I have none of those symptoms and I listen to Rush. Why, because I'm a conservative! That's it. And there are millions just like me that don't fit your stereotype about us. Keep labeling people with stereotypes and the divisiveness in this country will grow even deeper. :spit:

First thing is the Spike Jones reference comment (and I heard it when it was made ) was clearly satirical. Again Rush loves to emphasis the absurdity of the other side by being absurd. Spike Jones had suggested black kids should skip school to see his movie, Rush thought like I did that was absurd (and the wrong message to a community that needs to value education), and Rush suggested we follow Spikes logic to it's conclusion. The other comments I didn't hear when he made them, so I don't know the context they were made in.

What I know about Rush is this, he has a black co-host, he treats several blacks with far more respect then some so called black leaders treat blacks on the other side of the political spectrum. And he regularly has a black guest host.

Here are Rushes "controversial" views on race from his own hand in todays WSJ

The sports media elicited comments from a handful of players, none of whom I can recall ever meeting. Among other things, at least one said he would never play for a team I was involved in given my racial views. My racial views? You mean, my belief in a colorblind society where every individual is treated as a precious human being without regard to his race? Where football players should earn as much as they can and keep as much as they can, regardless of race? Those controversial racial views?

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704322004574477021697942920.html

I've already quoted one current NFL minority owner who sings that "N*****S and P****y holes are one in the same". For the record they are not African American. So is that a "controversial" position on race? I would say it's a bit more contemptible then anything Rush has said.

To be fair to Rush's audience, I am sure that a lot of the advertising demographics simply have to do with when the program is on the air, and its talk format. I can't imagine being able to do my job with any sort of talk radio turned on, even if it were a program that promoted my own views. That time slot is going to attract advertisers who are trying to reach blue collar, retirees, etc.

Also, obesity, baldness, erectile dysfunction, debt, and IRS problems are all caused by the Elites who want to control every aspect of your life. :D

The false quotes against Rush that started all of this has been traced to this IP address: 69.64.213.146

It belongs to a gateway (router) assigned to the Law Firm of Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP. It is possible that the IP addressed has been spoofed, or that another firm has access to it. There can be no presumption that Patterson Belknap is the source at this point.

This address has been used mostly to make changes to the article about Rush, but also Karl Rove, Sean Hannity, James Dobson and Sara Palin from 2005 until earlier this year.

It is interesting that they have a "Sports Group" of attorneys that specializes in "Growing Cross-Disciplinary Practice Handles Disputes and Transactions for Numerous Sports-Related Entities." Nothing made up here. It's on their own web site.

Spike Jones was a band leader, Spike Lee is a movie producer.

Spike Jones had suggested black kids should skip school to see his movie...

:D :D

Brad quoted at least one or two fake quotes. This is not a knock on Brad, as there are numerous made-up quotes on a multitude of websites out there that mislead people who aren't familiar with America's favorite medicine-ball head talk show host. There are enough real Limbaugh quotes that are silly to criticize w/out resorting to fiction.

Oh yeah, as much as Rush would have enjoyed his owners box, he's loving this even more.

Pavlov would be proud. Right on schedule. Like I said a softball. Now answer the other question with the same fervor and we're done.
;)

You mean the second question I already answered? The first part was built on a false premise. His drug use wasn't illegal. The second answer was in my post, as well. Of course the circumstances matter. But the circumstances you outlined in the question didn't exist. And I'm no one's dog, ever. I don't require "training" to respond to a poorly thought out question based on bad information.

And for someone who goes to the archives whenever it suits him as much as Rush, this is rich. As if he wouldn't use whatever he could find, regardless of timeline.

Actually, he makes his archives available to the subscribing public (of which I'm not a member), and other websites have transcripts. If you knew even roughly, within a year, which "rant" you were referring to, I'd like to look for myself. I wasn't suggesting Rush look up anything. He cites which archive he's using, anytime he goes to it, because he knows people will look, waiting for him to slip up, btw. Any timeline he cited would be verifiable.

Did anyone say it was? The conversation goes where it goes. That's the nature of the beast.

Sorry, I should have let burk explain why he didn't comment on decades of Rush's other statements, writing, interviews, etc. I was only pointing out that the subject so far had been limited to the NFL bid, not every aspect of the man's life.

And here we go with the poorly thought out question crap. Also right on schedule. Next stop, moral relativism. Followed by a mainstream media rant.
:D

If his drug use wasn't illegal, why did his lawyer say he made a deal?
:hmm:

No, I meant the other question I couldn't get Steve to address. I knew theOxycontin thing would be too hard to leave alone. The logic being if you can answer one question, answer the rest... or don't answer any.

The point was if Rush will use past statements and actions of others, why do you suggest not looking back at his? I was not asking if Rush can search his archives.

So how do you separate an alledged racist from his life?
:hmm:

I love a definitive statement like that. Leaves less wiggle room.

Here they are. Pick at least one or two that are fake:

1. "Take that bone out of your nose and call me back"

2. "Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?".

3. "Spike, if you're going to do that, let's complete the education experience. You should tell them that they should loot the theater, and then blow it up on their way out."

I'll use Burk as my source on this one... he says he actually heard it when it was made.

This should be good.
