Rush Limbaugh and the Rams

I love a definitive statement like that. Leaves less wiggle room.

Here they are. Pick at least one or two that are fake:

1. "Take that bone out of your nose and call me back"

2. "Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?".

3. "Spike, if you're going to do that, let's complete the education experience. You should tell them that they should loot the theater, and then blow it up on their way out."

I'll use Burk as my source on this one... he says he actually heard it when it was made.

This should be good.
:smug:

Snopes, much like wiki, is "hit or miss".

You've missed.

Back it up with in-context audio.

And by the way, your own link doesn't back up the listed quotes. Many are fake, and others are out of context.

You are smarter and fairer than this.

Like I said before, this cat has much to be held accountable for that is real. Why bother with BS?

Now that's funny.
Limbaugh and his ilk are masters of "creative editing."

That's irrelevant, because Soro's and his ilk have been tracking every word Rush said since the 90's. For the most part that is all Media Matters and a few others do. We're talking about a Radio show whose transcripts appear on Soro's web sites latter that afternoon with commentary. There is NO WAY Rush could have said those things about Slavery or James Earl Ray for instance in 98 on his show and it not turn up to till now. It's just not possible. Rush Limbaugh was cover of Time news in the mid 90's, and his opposition was keeping track of everything he did.

I'm not going to say too much but, I am very close to someone who worked in the district attorneys office that was prosecuting Rush.

Let me assure you, his drug use was very illegal. He had the right combination of luck and Roy Black.

Your probably correct, although I doubt that any first time painkiller user would have been charged for what he did. And painkiller use never seemed to bother the NFL, look at Bret Farve. The fact is, the Oxecoyten issue is a straw man, because the league (and rightly so) never brought it up as an issue when this potential purpose came up.

As someone who worked as a substance abuse therapist involved closely with the police, probation, parole, and drug court, I assure you first-time ABusers of class II narcotics like OXYCONTIN (not sure if that's different from Oxecoyten or not), are very frequently charged, even when they have no prior criminal record.

Brad, in actuality this is the real problem. Like most of Rush's critics you've never listened to him for any period of time. But the people who make help to form your opinions tell you he's racist. So you go to some dubious news source, don't even bother to read their own commentary on the origins of the quotes and use them to attack him. The sad fact is, you believe Rush is a racist because someone told you to believe it. If you have character, you will now do the right thing and check him out for yourself because your opinion of him is anything but informed. As a rule I try to avoid having strong opinions of people I'm uninformed about.

This is ridiculous on several levels. No ones needs to be TOLD anything about Limbaugh (just like no one needs to be TOLD anything about Michael Moore). What they do / say is enough for anyone to form an opinion.

...And secondly, you are so soaked in the conservative Kool-Aid, I'm quite certain you haven't "done the right thing" and checked out many people leaning against you, and IF you do, you look at them through such pathetically fogged up lenses, it's a waste.

It's still a straw man when it comes to this issue, neither the NFL or any of Rush's critics have linked the drug use issue to his eligibility for ownership. There really is only one question here. Is Rush Limbaugh a proclaimed racist. It shouldn't be to hard to prove the case there are almost thirty years of public transcripts available on the matter. But Au contraire, the case wouldn't even hold up for an indictment, much less a conviction. So Rush's political enemies have resorted to fixing the case and tampering with the evidence.

I don't think it's an issue at all. I don't think his politics has anything to do with being excluded, as has been said before, he's probably much more aligned with other owners politically than not.

It's the fact that controversy surrounds him, and he's far too outspoken, regardless of what his beliefs are. The same reason Michael Moore will never (and shouldn't) own a team.

I hear people quote him as an authority on a fairly regular basis.
Dude, you're hanging out with the wrong people.

Oh yeah, as much as Rush would have enjoyed his owners box, he's loving this even more.
This is an interesting point. I had to work the rare Saturday yesterday and flipped through the radio looking for some sports scores on the way home (mid afternoon). Apparently Rush either has a Saturday program or it was pre-recorded, but he was on. Thanks to this thread, I listened through about 2 commercial breaks.

The entire time I listened, it was self-promotion on this issue. The misquoting thing seems to have given him another level on his soapbox. He took a call or two and they were just ramped up as he was. So here's my take:

a) whoever started the misquoting thing (if it was even organized) seems to have screwed up in that the act has legitimized his "I'm being persecuted" schtick. The bigger picture being....

b) He knew his involvement was going to stir the media pot, but I'm thinking that fact might be the very reason he got involved in a bid in the first place. The backlash empowers his message and his base. Not to mention the DAYs of free advertising. I'm sure his numbers spiked this past week.

Michael Moore, Rush Limbaugh, etc are, in a large part, made newsworthy by the people that don't like them. Rush has built a career using both his audience and those that hate him to his benefit. It's kind of ironic.

First, I think your ignoring the nature of the charge. Crying racist is a serious charge. If your going to make that serious of a charge, perhaps you might want to have some evidence? What we had instead was the racist card being played. If Rush is so controversial, perhaps it's fair to ask why? Is it true controversy, or is it an attempt by his enemies to discredit him? If he is really "to controversial" then why did his critics resort to falsification and libel to discredit him in this episode? Perhaps, it's his enemies that are "to controversial" and most of Rush's views are quite mainstream.

It is quite common in the field of politics to engage in argument by attack. If you don't have evidence, it's much easier just to label some one you disagree with an extremist. It's so much simpler then actually debating their views. Apparently the case against Mr. Limbaugh for being "to controversial" is so weak his political enemies have to manufacture false quotes and attribute them to him to make their case. Perhaps the "to controversial" mantra is just an attempt at avoiding actual debate of his positions.

Again, the league and the players association have a massive double standard. One of the leagues current minority owners has already proclaimed that "all n******s are P*****y holes". And unlike Rush this happened within the last five years. That is certainly far more "controversial" then anything Rush has said in the past twenty years.

I'm a little confused here...

Throughout about half of the thread I've repeatedly read that Rush being labeled a racist doesn't matter, because he thinks that "reverse-racism" happens all the time, and nobody talks about it, and the other half of the time its a very serious character assassination?

Can you guys just pick and choose, please?
