Rush Limbaugh and the Rams

But he's Black so that should be close enough for the logic at play here.
:smug:

Rush has not made any of the statements attributed to him. Never. In other news, the Tooth Fairy just won the Talledega 500 in a bone stock Smart fortwo.
:hyper:

Brad, their are two separate issues here. Taking issue with things Mr. Limbaugh has actually said. And some very pathetic pseudo Journalists like Rick DUI Sanchez, and Drew Sharp repeating made up quotes attributed to him. Rush Limbaugh doesn't say a WORD without Media Matters (among others) recording and transcribing it. And yet the quote about "giving a medal to James Earl Ray" and "slavery having merit" hasn't been sourced to any date, time, recording or transcript. If you can't make your case without referring to libel, false hoods and slander, I have to wonder if you have a case? I'm not talking about the Enquirer here, I'm talking about CNN, Sports Illustrated, MSNBC, Detroit Free Press and Fox sports. What happened was despicable. He wasn't "misquoted" or simply taken out of context. Quotes were made up and attributed to him falsely and no one in the MSM bothered to check the source before reporting it. The amazing thing is these quotes supposedly go back to 1998 and yet they are just surfacing now? Right as the news of the purchase hits the wires, yeah right.

Stop confusing them with the facts. :D ;)

Did you notice you spent the majority of this post on only one issue? Why? Weren't there two?
:D

And now for something different... why not deal with what can been proven that he said? It seems the usual tact is to focus only on what helps your case. That's the get out a jail free card. This one thing is wrong so the 10 things that are right don't need to be addressed. Whew! That was close.

What about what he actually has said and done? This doesn't have to be limited to race. Here's a softball... you can also address why his hardline stance on what should happen to Whites whom he said were getting away with illegal drug use shouldn't apply to an illegal drug user such as himself? In his original rant, did the circumstances matter?

Yes, that is laughable. People obviously see what they need to see. You seem to have missed the onesidedness of his "facts". Just like many people seem to miss the same with Rush on a regular basis. That's not funny, it's just sad.

Here's what I find truly sad and funny: Rush has a core audience of victims who are angry because others might feel victimized about different issues.
:D :smug:

Rush will always be an extremist and bigot. He does not "do the right things" and cannot if he wants to keep his extremist audience which is needed for him to make piles of money.

Vick has paid the legal price, "made nice' publicly, is doing the right things, and is therefore forgiven in our society.

You may not like it, but that's how it works. Get over the Mike Vick stuff...it's so "last summer".....the collective consciousness of the public has moved on.

Never!!!

My issue was not Jay-Z's political comments. My issue was his misogynistic lyrics and the promotion of violence in his lyrics. But apparently it's Ok for a sports team owner to promote the treatment of women as ho's and shooting people who "dis" you, as long as you have the "right" politics. No double standard there. :hmm:

Here's a quote written by another NFL part-Owner who is not for the record African American:
And the game done chose me to bring pain to n****s and p****y holes, they one in the same.
No double standard there.:hmm:

The fact of the matter is this the league doesn't care near as much about it's image as it fears a certain group of people who hate Mr. Limbaugh for his political views.

You are confusing your feelings about Rush with the issue at hand; which is whether or not he should be allowed to invest in an NFL team. Regardless of your opinion of the man as a talk show host why should he not be allowed to be an owner in the NFL? He is being slandered and misrepresented. :eyebrow:
And by the way I am no victim.

Brad, I assume your smarter then the straw man you brought up. The league doesn't check the political views of potential owners to be sure they are consistent and that there is zero hypocrisy in their lives. And that was not the "reason" given by those who opposed him. Those who opposed him accused him of racism and them miserably failed to make the case. They even found themselves resorting to lies to do it. Perhaps if they had a REAL case they wouldn't have had too?

It's been interesting just to watch, but this keeps coming up, and it is a softball.

Rush's drug abuse wasn't illegal. It was doctor-prescribed, self-confessed, and he took himself off the air for months to deal with it. He was cleared by the state of Florida of all "doctor shopping" charges. His substance abuse was no more illegal than alcoholism is. His original "rant" (which one would that be, by the way? The show has archives, I'd love to check) may or may not have occurred while he was abusing Oxycontin; there are defined start and end dates (his second back surgery until his admittance to rehab) for when he was using, and he came back admitting that Oxycontin had forced him to become someone he wasn't; it was one of the stated reasons he had for quitting.

Pilgrim said earlier that it was time to drop the attitude towards Michael Vick, the country had moved on since he had "made nice" and served his time. So, why doesn't the same apply to Rush when it comes to his Oxycontin abuse?

Also, that wasn't the reason given as to why he was dropped from the NFL bid, which was the original discussion in the first place.

You make a glib comment about confusing them with facts in a direct response to something I wrote. I was talking about exactly what I was talking about and you jumped in. Maybe that confused you.

Of course you aren't a victim. That's always the other guy.
:hyper:

I don't care if he gets part ownership in a club. I think the guy is a disingenuous, divisive ass who the intended audience seem to love. No surprise there. The fact that he's said what he's said and people dodge that isn't the least bit confusing.
:o

The truly laughable part of this thread is the number of folks who contend the guy isn't racist becuase of what he didn't say, ignoring what he did. Probably because if he is, then logically that would lead to the conclusion that they are. Maybe he should take the bone out of his nose so they can really understand him.

Ah, satire.

I didn't see a smiley face. Is that an insult aimed at RWP, or all Rush Limbaugh fans on this site? :hmm:

Not going to elaborate.

But, I will say:

To get the most bang for their bucks, advertisers depend on sophisticated polling techniques to identify the demographics of an audience. I listen to Rush and all I hear are commercials for 1) a weight reduction substance; 2) a cure for baldness; 3) erectile dysfunction remedies/prostate remedies; 4) easy solutions to get out of debt; 5) dealing with major debt to the IRS. That coupled with his anti-social behaviors gave me my opinion.

Pavlov would be proud. Right on schedule. Like I said a softball. Now answer the other question with the same fervor and we're done.

You'd need to ask Pilgrim, wouldn't you? That was his edict, not mine. And for someone who goes to the archives whenever it suits him as much as Rush, this is rich. As if he wouldn't use whatever he could find, regardless of timeline.

Also, that wasn't the reason given as to why he was dropped from the NFL bid, which was the original discussion in the first place.

Did anyone say it was? The conversation goes where it goes. That's the nature of the beast.

That must just be a coincidence.

And no, that statement isn't satire either.
;)

Aw come on, don't you want to associate yourself with people who want to improve their lives? When I listened to the program many years ago, his main advertiser was "Hooked on Phonics."

The newspaper that I read has advertisements for "luxury homes and estates," but I don't hold it against them. :D

I brought up the fact that you didn't address any of the stuff he did say. And you still aren't. Not as much straw there as you hoped for. Now you've changed direction again instead of answering directly. Why?

Defend the stuff he did say.

I agree with everyone that says the NFL should not be excluding Limbaugh. He has the money and the desire and should be allowed to join that club of owners. After all, excluding someone from membership because of their political views and statements made is almost as bad as excluding someone because of their gender. That's why I'm certain that everyone defending Rush in this thread was also in favor of Martha Burk gaining membership at Augusta National Golf Club.
