Make sure you approach it with respect.
If you approach it like your average Jim Beam, you'll end up on your lips in no time.
It's got a nice spice/sweetness and the long finish is great.

Ok, I know nothing about rye whiskey. I dig single malt scotch. I'll drink bourbon, but it is not my regular preference. I enjoy some types Irish whiskey. Recommend a rye whiskey that I could try that,as a single malt guy, I might enjoy. I should also say that I drink whiskey neat. Ice is grudgingly allowed, and maybe water if the situation warrants, Anything else is sacrilege. What should I try that wont break the bank?

Knob Creek Rye . It's about 25 bucks and it is a great sipper neat. Full of flavor and a good finish.

Both of these.
The Rittenhouse is a touch sweeter and not as full flavored as the KCR, but still a good choice.

Outta left field, I know it's a bourbon, but Basil Hayden's is a good choice that has a higher amount of rye than most bourbons, so it's got some of the rye character to it.

I was tempted to buy a Basils today, I should of. Next time for sure, I believe they are under the same umbrella as Jim Beam, Knob Creek, Bookers, etc.

For me, I find Canadian whiskeys to be too sweet, along with the typical Tennessee whiskey ( Jack) Although jack/ coke is my tavern go to. Bullit and Knob Creek don’t do much for me - I feel like they are fan boy bourbons. Woodford Reserve is decent. I don’t care for sweet - so I want to LOVE rye, but haven’t found the right one yet. My guitar player owns a micro distillery and produces some amazing bourbons. I need to push him into a rye....

I was in Latvia and the boys drank a Canadian rye no name type whiskey that was in a maple shaped bottle because it was the cheapest whiskey they could get. Must have been that stuff that wound me up in the back of a cop van. Eventually they let me go disappointedly after discovering I had no bribe money.
