I'm so jealous, I want to go out and play so bad. I haven't played a live gig in 2 years. Not by conscious choice, I thought I would be regularly gigging a long time ago when I joined certain bands lol.
We've got two gigs in April, nothing until then. Working on new songs, sloooowly finishing up the recording process.
Both April gigs are at the local DIY venue. I'm looking forward to those, I always have a good time at those shows and the turnout is generally pretty good. Cover is $5.00, which gets you a cup for the kegs of natty or beast ice. BYOB is also encouraged. It's going to be fun.

There was a point where I wanted a break, because I had a streak of gigging every week, touring, then gigging even more. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR. Since my old punk/hardcore band that I was in for years broke up, I've started bands or joined bands and been put through the freakin ringer with flakiness. So far I have never played more than one gig per band I've been in AT MOST since then. Including a band I was in for 3 years. Hopefully Warp Rig will start gigging eventually or I get something new going, with the express purpose of putting things on the fast track to being ready to gig. I love recording obviously, but I've been dying to play live for a while, it's maddening.
I've always dated girls with a Christian background, and told them I'd never go to church, unless their parents were there then I'd pretend for their sake. I also asked my previous ex to never go to church again unless her parents were there to support the image after we did once. I said it was a waste of great wake up fun times... We never once went back to a church.
I don't mind beliefs, as long as I can say whatever, and we don't have to physically go somewhere to support your beliefs.

We've got a show next weekend, it'll be our first in a couple months. Took time off to record the new record, which is coming along nicely. Hoping for a May release....but we'll see.
In other news I've been doing some experimenting with my rig. Since my guitarist hasn't been using the Mesa Strategy 400 tube power amp, I decided to see how a tube power section sounded with my setup.
So I hooked up 1/2 of the Mesa (can't be bridged) to the ORMAT side of my Dunwich preamp into the Dually. Then bridged the Carvin with the Ampeg side of the Dunwich into the 66.
Sounds amazing. Massive low end from the 66, crunchy high/mid range from the tube power section via the ORMAT/Mesa/Dually, I'm happy.
Continue to mess around, Hook both channels of the Dunwich into the Mesa 400 in stereo, so 150-ish watts per side, all tube.....
Remember why I stopped using tube amps, it wasn't that is sounded bad, but I lost all my huge low end, it was still loud. But it wasn't painful....granted it's not surprsing that a 3800 watt power amp is going to be louder than a 150 watt tube power amp, but it was like a night and day difference in my tone.
So I start thinking of a way to incorporate the Mesa into my setup permentaly...but I have a whole unused side of a power amp just being lonely...so natrually I start thinking of new cabs, new setup, new everything, everything louder.
then before I got too far ahead of myself, I decided to check out ORMAT/with a seperate SS power amp/Dually and Keep the Ampeg/Bridged Carvin/66 set up the same.
Sounds just as good as it did with the Mesa tube amp running the ORMAT/Dually. The Mesa was probably a little warmer, but really at the volume I was playing, and once the rest of the band was playing, it was indistinguishable whether I was using the Tube or SS power section on that part of my rig.
Turns out the magic in my rig is coming from bridging the carvin and getting the massive power/extended low end from having all the extra headroom on tap.
So now instead of new everything, I'm going to find a small SS power amp to run the Dually/ORMAT and keep the Ampeg/Carvin/66 setup as it is. As much fun as it was to hook some tube amps back into my setup, I can't justify the space and weight of a tube power amp (plus there aren't many good mono tube power amps out there) when a SS amp will get me 95% of the same result, without having to change everything in my rig.

Oh wow I could never go that long without playing out. I'm a bit stir crazy just playing once a month; I'd like to get it up to two, sometimes three. When my old band was blowing and going, we'd play sometimes seven plus shows a month. That was nuts!
So another off topic topic, have you guys been watching True Detective? I just started this week and I'm 2 episodes in. One of the greatest shows I've ever seen.
First congrats on the new album. I really hope Bongripper makes it through Philly soon as I haven't got the chance to see you guys live yet.
More power definitely helps when you are doing low tuned stuff. Heck even at regular tuning I have so much more low end switching to an SS amp with more power. I like tubes but they aren't always better. Recently, I have been noticing that a lot of the bands I have been seeing sound better with SS bass rigs. Of course this isn't an absolute rule. It seems to me the heavier and more distorted the guitars are the more likely a powerful SS bass amp will sound better. If the guitars are somewhat thinner a tube amp seems to sound better. Again this isn't always the case just something I have noticed the last six months or so that I started really paying attention.
I did not like it. Watched 3 episodes and couldn't go on. Too slow for me. I thought it was going to be a 2 part movie thing, I didn't realize it was going to be a series.
Really? After two episodes I'm freaking glued to this show. I can't wait to watch more. I'm absolutely mesmerized by mcconaughey's acting.
