Was thinking after yesterday's cab discussion that just grabbing some sort of powered speaker would work pretty well as a portable jam with friends rig. My old GK 115 is just too inconvienent to bring around places, also not really that loud, great for an apartment though.

I know Berg made a 3x10 and 1x12 that are supposed (and I'm sure they are) amazing. Just more than I really want to spend on something that I wouldn't be using a ton.

Im gonna say its a fools errand. Most powered PA cabs are either PA mains or subs. I am not sure of any true full range, lightweight, single cabs that are anywhere near affordable. In my mind dragging a powered main and sub defeats the purpose.

There are lightweight/small/loud options out there, and they are great. Really depends on what your budget is.

Paid gig, and he wants to claim his earnings? Or is he running the band like a LLC? If he really wants to pursue it, and you want to maintain the relationship, ask him for all of the forms you need to fill out and his accountants address. Just tell him you are not comfortable giving him that information, and if he is not running it through a CPA that you will not participate.

Any of you guys have any tips and tricks for setting up a bass with really thick strings? I got that new p-bass and i spent some time setting it up last night and i get alot of fret noise even though its not hitting any frets, and it doesnt transfer through the pickup and out the amp. I had the action really low but had to raise it back up to prevent the lowest 3 frets from dying out. Am I over thinking it and should not worry about it since its not heard through the pickup or should i raise the action to uncomfortable levels to try and increase lowest note sustain and clarity even though its acceptable now? (for reference this is a 99 p-bass with .65-.150's in BEAD with a badass II bridge)

Have you done the standard neck tension relief and done some preliminary intonation work on the bridge? From there, string height comes down to play style and personal preference.

I don't know exactly which way, he said it was for his accountant. I don't want or need to have a continued relationship after this. it was a one off / sub gig that I made less then $600 ( which I guess more and you have to claim.). This is my email response, rough draft

I'm sorry but this is some serious information that should of been conveyed before playing a gig. You asking for my address trying to slap me with it and me unknowingly and stupidly thinking it was for something else when giving you my address. I'm sorry but I'm not going to give you my SS#. If that information would of been given to me in the first place I would of turned down the gig. I did berry and you guys a favor and this is how I am repaid? I know it's not as bad as the situation sounds as a whole, but I don't need the headache or even the blip of this on my taxes. I'm sorry but that is a terrible way to conduct business.

Yes, and yes. That's what I was wondering, I guess my real question is those of you using big strings do you get alot of fret noise as well? Is it just an acceptable side effect of using them? I got it to a point where anywhere on the neck i can slide back and forth and do hammer on pull offs and not lose any notes or sound so I think I'm good, but its still really clanky moving around and fretting notes. Playing it not plugged in sounds like it would be a jarbled mess, but you plug it in and it sounds fine. It's just really weird to me.

Set the string height were you are comfortable playing, if you are not hearing it through your rig, its not too low. I found that when switching to a larger set of strings it took a bit for my play style to accommodate. YMMV.

Like I said either ask him for all the forms, and his accountants info as you will not provide it to him. Or just tell him to go eat a big bag of dicκ's.
