That is nice looking for the money. Did I miss it, or did you say what the body wood is?

I'd like to get a closer look and get some more info. Not a fan of the white binding on the body, but the top laminate looks pretty nice from the pics.

Hmm. Didn't even notice the binding. I actually like that myself, but I know it's not for everyone.

So, the ads for those basses say:

"One run of these fine guitars were produced as a testing run and these limited quantities will only be available for a short period of time."

I wonder what this really means. Is it code for:
"We're not ever going to order more production" or
"These are prototypes, and we have to improve these so we will never build them this way again" or is it simply
"Please hurry up and buy some of these so that we can get our business going"

?

The original S&T instruments (and this goes back a lot of years) were hand built in the old shop on Cooper street,and later behind the address on Union ave. in an old house, and were made from mostly USA made Schecter parts . Later they were made from mostly Japanese parts on a sorta semi production scale. This new series is mostly an attempt to cash in on what the S&T name was in the glory days ... as for all practical purposes it's no longer a functioning entity.



... It's kinda sad to see this new stuff ... knowing what it used to be.

I had never heard of S&T from the past.

But, why would this be sad There are several low end Chinese-made basses out there, and these are made in China, but they Appear to be Possibly a step above some of the rest. Another low cost alternative is a good thing, no?

I live about a one hour drive from Memphis. I don't know where the word "coveted" in their add came from because the line of ST BLUES guitars and basses are in IMHO ST.CRAPPY. They are not very well constructed and way over priced. Not to mention the store that sells them, Strings and Things, is absolutely the worst music store in Memphis, TN. hands down. Been there several times, mostly because all the other music stores were closed for the day. It actually took me two hours to buy a set of bass strings. I will not go back.

Well years ago (were talking the 70s) S&T was one of THE places to see and be seen ... It was about that time that they started building and modding instruments ... mods were all the rage then, and we are talking doing it to vintage instruments. S&T was known worldwide for being one of the top shops in that field ... the black Les Paul you see Jeff Beck playing on the cover of "Blow by Blow" is one of those customs. The original store on Cooper St. burned down in the late 70s and the store was moved to Union Ave. with a shop in a house behind the store. Schecter USA was a parts supplier in those days and and Keck built some really fine one of customs using many of those parts ... you can tell these easily because of the neck plates with a special serial number.

The St. Blues line was started making a guitar called a "Bluescaster" it was an instant hit. The guitar was basiclly a tele body cut to a LP size ... and came with several different pickup configurations. There are even pictures of Clapton with one, and ads showing him as an endorser. Slowhand was only one endorser Elliott Easton of the Cars was another, and there were many more. These instruments as I recall were made from mostly ESP Japan parts and of good quality. Several other models came out and that included basses.

S&T moved into a complex on Madison Ave. a number of years ago only a shell of what it used to be. It has become a victim of modern times ... including the Ebay, the net and GC. Early this year a deal was cut to remake some of the original St. Blues styles in the Orient ... they are kinda pointless with the flood of other stuff out there the Agile, Douglas, and SX lines to name a few.

Thanks for the info Kenny. Sounds like it was quite interesting. I had never heard of them before, but I'll keep an eye out for their unusual neck plates.
