I have a question:

one of the screws on the pickguard is really getting on my last nerve. When I pop, it keeps scrapping the top of my finger and today in rehearsal it actually cut me and I started bleeding everywhere.

Do you guys think if I just pull out that one screw it will mess with the sound of my instrument?

You can pull it out, lol

I had the same problem, the non-countersunk screws from the diamondplate pickguard would SHRED the tops of my fingers when I played slap style

I called Ernie Ball and ordered a plastic pickguard with proper countersunk screws, now all is fine no more shredding.

I have the red pearled pickguard on black body. It looks pretty sick with my red velvet looking strap AND my rotosounds happen to have red on the ends of the strings. Not to mention that my carvin amp has all metallic red knobs and the cab has a red horn in between the 2 10" speakers.

It matches pretty ridiculously and I swear I didn't even try to have it that way. Been using the strap for years, got the bass with the awesome pickup already on it, and happened to find a great deal on the amp without even seeing a picture of it.

If looks could kill, my setup would be doing life for serial murder.

So would it be ok to pull just one screw out but not replace it with a countersunk one? just basically leave a hole there?

Those screws are really ouchy!

Yeah, you could just run without the one screw. It might detract from your perfectly coordinated look though!

As far as tone controls, I run the bass up all the way and the treble just cracked a little off minimum. With less bright strings I'd probably add a little more treble but with the DR's there is no need. Remember the 2 band EQ is boost only just like my 79 Sting Ray. LOVE THE 2 BAND!!

yeah, my Rotos (RL66D) are super super bright too. I run my controls same way as you.

I like the 2 band too. See, I usually like to cut my mids a little but the same is almost accomplished more successfully by boosting the bass and a little on the treble eqs. By that I mean I like the sound better boosting the bass and treble than what I THOUGHT I liked which was just cutting the mid.

I am completely in love with my SUB after having it for 3 weeks now. I gotta get a picture of my setup for you guys to see.

I will say this though. I miss my low-B a lot more than I thought I was going to. (if you didn't follow this thread a month ago: i traded in my yamaha standard-5 for the SUB4)

Besides my huge longing for a low B string, I am absolutely head over heals in love with this bass

good point.

BUT... Ryan Stacick belongs in every thread on every forum on the entire internet.

I really like him.

SUBs RULE! (there! I said something about a SUB)

also, to the guy that was thinking of trading his SUB in for a SQUIRE p-bass: dude, bad move. don't do it. SOME squire basses are pretty good but MOST are not. That being said, from what I've read/heard/seen, ALL SUB basses are good. You can definitely get a P-Bass-ish sound out of your SUB if you turn up the bass boost and keep the treble boost off.

Just found this thread. This is my Baby
