Sadowski... Not impressed...

This thread should have been over in one post, stating the truth that we all like what we like, and there sure is no perfect choice for everyone.
5 pages is carrying on a bit, and its all been done before anyway... It gets a bit tiresome.
Except for Munjibunga's koa 24-5. That makes this thread worthwhile.

nope. the very next sentence explained why i thought that *i* would have been a douche for bringing it up.
i could have worded it more clearly but as i typed my response out i figured that i was being fairly clear that i meant that i decided against making a post that would have been disrespectful to anyone else.
i have no problem saying that i can be a douche sometimes, however.
all apologies to the other person if they read it the same way you did.

Like any other bass they are not for everyone. Back in February I picked up a UV70-5 with VTC. From the first note I knew it was something great. The next day I gigged with it and it blew me away. So much so that I sold off a (high end) bass and bought another Sadowsky 2 weeks ago. I only wish I'd tried Sadowsky 5 years ago. I could have "not" bought and sold 5 other High end basses. Like they say: "live and learn".
I have learned in my life some people, even though it appears they are not, are actually total frickin idiots. Not that I am refering to anybody here, but people in general.

I've played my fair share of metros here in Australia, just one big pile of meh in my opinion. Plenty of good tones for others, wouldn't ever consider buying one though!
He was playing it through an Ampeg rig and probably assumed the preamp to be cut/boost. Those two things combined would make for a hard hill to climb. And if he's not experienced with those things, I can see how he'd get out of breath, get frustrated and just climb back down.
The first time I played a Sadowsky was through an Eden WT800B with the 410XLT. It was a Vintage 5 with year-old Sadowsky strings. I didn't know about the preamp either. I'd seen the pictures and seen the threads on how great they were but had never had a chance to play one. At first, it was "fine." Great tone but nothing to write home about that I couldn't say using a Fender or Lakland. And then I was informed....
It was absolutely wonderful in the mix that night, sitting right where it needed to while still letting you know "Hey, dammit, I'm here. Listen to my low-mid presence." I still can't justify that expenditure, but that's a personal choice that I make to live below my means. I found the neck to be bigger than my Lakland but not in so extreme a way that I could not settle in. I felt like it let me tune right in to the way the Sadowsky was wanting to be played.

I'm just now checking this thread, but the last thing I'd EVER call a Sadowsky neck is bulky and chunky...
I tried a Sad NYC (at home, not on a gig) and returned it. Don't get me wrong, I loved the bass, It simply didn't live up to the reviews I'd read. Perhaps I'd need to try it on a gig, but I can't say I've ever played another bass that was "very good" in my living room but "out of this world" on a gig, I've been able to tell in the past. For me it was simply a case of a very high price for a bolt-on jazz style bass. I'd buy one used if the opportunity arises, and I might consider a Metro, but I'd rather have the lighter weight and custom finish. I honestly didn't see justification for paying about 2K more than a Lull or Elrick. (FWIW I prefer Elrick) Just my 02.
