Sadowsky modern 24f

Thanks for the re-assurance on the pick-up swap! I am glad to hear taking the EMG's out sounds like a good move. I've been debating this for a while now. Haven't met anyone that has had both types of pickups in the bass until now. Thanks for the post!

I found that the sadowsky/ duncan made i think newer PU have more bottom but retains mids and clarity. the top is still there too.. but the noise problems that i had with the EMGs were gone... they do sound different.. but i really think they are WAY better than the original EMG.... by the way. you must have an Older 24 fret?????
mine was a 94 model..

Yes it's an older one, I've had mine for a little more than 6 years. I have several other sadowsky's that I play more due to the tone being better. I LOVE the way my 24 fret plays, but the tone isn't as desireable to me as the other one's I have (all J's). I don't mean it's bad......it's got a great sound. I'd just like more bottom!

The main complaint I have with my particular 24F is the bottom isn't there as much as with my other basses. I'd be REALLY happy if this pickup swap will put some more bottom into the bass. Then I'd probably have trouble putting this one down!!

This one is getting packed up and sent to Roger's shop this week for some upgrades!!!

I noticed that his new PU that you are getting retain the top of the EMG but adds girth snd some roundness that was missing with the peaky/ pointy sound of the original EMGs.... I think that you may be pleasantly happy when it returns...
One thing that may be a nice addition is the Vintage Tone Control..... Let us know when it returns.

I would go for the 21 fret j style. I like em both but the j style has more balls. Unless you get a nyc with 24frets and the j style pickups in the j location. I played Jason Newsteds bass while it was there a while back and that thing shook the foundation of the building.

I went to the shop last summer and tried every bass there and wasn't blown away. I have Foderas (2) and a bunch of other high-ends.

But, after a few weeks I couldn't get one of the Sads out of my mind. It was the 24 5 fretless (only one there). So, I ordered one - NYC w/ebony board - can't put it down and it barely weighs 8lbs.

Haven't played a Fodera for months now!:rolleyes:

I totally here you!!

I have been playing Sadowsky's for a really long time. I sold all of my vintage (60's) fender basses along with a whole mess of other ones. I could not put that bass down (and still can't!)
For me, there is nothing like a Sadowsky. In fact, the only basses I own are Sadowsky's!

The next one I am going to add to my collection will be a 24 F fretless as well!

If he only made 6 string models...............!!!!!!

Hey Mo, I saw your name on the Bass Teacher's list during orientation at MI. And pertaining to your current dillema, I personally like the Ash/Maple 24F w/vintage tone control. It's been my favorite thus far. Go to bassexchange and try one out, they have one there.

Edit: I just noticed this is a super old thread!

What is different on the 24 fret necks now? Is it a big difference? Is it only on Metros or NYC's as well? I have a 1990-91 Modern 5 and I love the neck on it. I've been playing it exclusively for 12 or so years now and I really want a fretless version with the exact neck profile of my old one, since I'm so used to it. Maybe I'll have to wait for a older model fretless to come up for sale (yeah right!) One can wish eh? I'm really gassing for one! :crying:

The new necks are not as flat as the older 24 fret necks , the new necks are identical in profile to the 21 fret basses.

When you mean older neck , what year is it?
I have an "older" 24 Fret and it is the most comfortable bass in the planet, sound is good but feel is super great. I had newer 5ers (not Modern) and didn't felt like my 24 fret at all ,

Well the non modern the 21 fret basses never had that really flat design profile the 24 fret basses had. Roger told me that basses before # 2500 around 1996 had this older flat neck.
