Sadowsky or Roscoe ?

If you had my gear (see signature), and were in the market for a new bass, which would you go with? A Roscoe SKB-3005, or Sadowsky 5 String?

I'm GASin for both, but have to choose one. Which would you go with, if you had my set-up?

I would take a look at the skjold as well. I have and am happy with a skjold and a roscoe. They are both great basses. The roscoe has its own distinctive flavor and the skjold is more of a chameleon and is less "middy" but they are both fabulous.

The Sadowsky is a classic but it sort of depends on what you're doing with the instrument.

Actually, I thought it and typed it and didn't speaketh it!!!
There is absolutely nothing unique about a Sadowsky;
add up the parts and one will have a very expensive set- up/logo.
Since this mindset inevitably appears on TB every time someone mentions Sadowsky, let me be the first to say, for the sake of the original poster, let's not turn this into a flame war. Let this guy have his opinion, and keep the slightly more enlightened perspectives coming.

...And I'd take a Roscoe, only because I find its tone to be more unique (read: not better) than a Sadowsky.

+1 and cruiser is flaming all over... does this make him a flamer?

Hmm, if you read the whole thread it seems to me that
someone else already mentioned that Sadowskys are
over-priced; but I guess you're just picking me out of the crowd.

I'm am in no way an expert but this is my opinion on the matter at hand here. If I was ordering a new bass I would go with a roscoe and chose my fav combo of woods, body style (LG or SKB), and pickup/preamp optoins. I like Roscoes a great deal and think they are one of the best deals out there for getting a real high quality custom bass.

On to the sadowsky, for this purchase I would also consider a Mike Lull (because I am from the northwest and dig the local guy). But for both of these builders I would try and buy a used bass off someone, this way if you want to turn around the sell the thing you will likely not be out any money.

If you bought both used you could get 2 for the price of one new one (take the examples below from the classifieds section here. both kick ass basses)

If I could have found a MIA Fender Jazz or similar bass that played as well and sounded as good as my Sadowsky, you can darn well bet I would have bought it and gladly saved the extra $$$. So in that sense, it is unique in that I have found no other J bass that's nearly as good as it is.

It seems, however, that the OP is leaning toward the Roscoe, for good reasons. According to what he's posted, the Roscoe is more what he's seeking/lacking.

I asked myself the same question and concluded that I will start with a Sad Metro J/J, sell a left nut for a NYC P/J in a year or two, then inch my way towards a Rosco LG-3005 and an MTD 535 for that modern thing covered in glorious wood grain. It's all apart of my long term GAS relief program.

Good luck

*shrugs*

Nothing wrong at all with preferring a Roscoe. They are great basses. Cruiser on the other hand, is just a *edited*. Notice even when it was implied, he never said he has played a Sadowsky, or even seen one in person. He's simply flaming.
