Sadowsky outboard + effects

Whats up guys,

So I'm in the market for a D.I., and I recently picked up a Fender 08 Jazz V. Naturally I thought about the Sadowsky outboard preamp + di. However, I also run a compressor, chorus, overdrive, and volume pedal.

If I ran the sadowsky preamp at the end of the signal chain in order to send the effected signal to the P.A., would I basically lose the "sadowsky" tone? Ideally I'd like to run the outboard immediately after the bass, but then it would send a "clean" signal to the board.

What do you guys think? Not worth it?

so just to clarify...

even if i have the signal going through a compressor before entering the sadowsky, it'll still give me the classic sadowsky tone? most of the time, the compressor is the only effect on so that's all i'm really concerned about.

Maybe I am just different. I know that I am by no means an effects aficionado, but I always felt that the Sadowsky outboard sounded best when it was immediately after the bass and before any other effects. I definitely noticed what appeared at least to my ears as a marked improvement when the Sadowsky was first in the chain rather than last.

Then again like I said, I am not a big effects guy. I usually just use the Sadowsky and maybe a fulltone bassdrive if I am feeling uber frisky. Hell, what do I know? I fully admit that I never use a compressor, so maybe I wouldn't notice a difference with just compression.

There are always going to be subtle differences if you put an EQ before another effect versus after. The "classic Sadowsky tone" is just a Fenderish tone with hyped highs and lows, and the subtle coloration of the circuit. Yes the sum effect will be slightly different before vs. after, but I really think you're (OshKosh) attaching too much value to the concept of some "pure, unadulterated" "classic Sadowsky tone". It's an EQ pedal. A good one, sure, but that's the whole deal. I seriously doubt any FOH soundguy would ever hear the difference, and certainly no-one in the audience, not even Roger himself. In the studio they will have more advanced compressors, and at home it's only you so does it really matter.

I'm not trying be mean-spirited here, just trying to inject some realism.

it depends on how you use your pedals... I'd consider putting the volume and compressor pedals after the DI, dirt first and then chorus... or maybe volume first, if you use it with your OD pedal...

the real question is probably if you need the sadowsky preamp in the first place, or are you just trying to find a reason to buy one... I'd rather buy a good DI and forget about the sadowsky and all the issues regarding the chain order...
