Sadowsky Sounding "Muddy"

That is almost the first time I ever heard of a sound engineer not just doing cartwheels over the Sadowsky tone (typical response). I did have a sound guy in a band I worked with have trouble with the output level from the DI (pre everything), meaning the bass was a little hot for the board. Took the bass' level down and everyone was happy.

That said, this sound engineer may simply have a previous bass EQ or likes Ibanez or whatever. Who knows, maybe he is tone deaf. Many things are possible. Good on you to keep the peace and the Sadowsky. Smile and play his Ibanez or whatever. Things will change. This event doesn't mean too much, IMO.

Ok - So I have been playing the Sadowsky flat out (as one does).

Have noticed of late the the signal has been distorting/farting out when I dig in with my right hand.

I have changed the settings on my amp - still distorts.
I have changed the battery for the pre-amp - still distorts.

However when I pull the toggle switch for the pre-amp to by-pass it - no more distortion.

I am guessing that it is either the pre-amp or the pick-ups (doubt its the pick-ups as it would be distorting with or witout the pre-amp engaged).

I am going to take it back to where I puchased it from and they will check it out - being that it is a few weeks old it's still under warranty.

Has this happened to anyone in the past?

I'm using a GK700RB-II which has a clip indicator.
I don't believe the amp has an active input.
I have overdriven that amp before and the clip indicator flashes like crazy. In this case the clip light is not flashing when the distorion occurs.

Still distorts even with the on board volume decreased.
Amp also has a -14dB PAD which significantly reduces the volume but I still get the distortion.

Have you tried turning the volume knob down? Sadowskys have a very hot output. It's happened to me, and that's the solution. You don't have to run the volume at max. If you were supposed to do that, it'd be a switch rather than a pot.

GK? The gain knob is different than with other amps, and it is possible to clip the input regardless of gain setting, ime.
