A new rosin that is out, is getting some good reviews.

"The Salzman Symphony rosin #10 is now my preferred rosin, having tried all the rosins out there. It provides the perfect amount of bite for a variety of articulation, but still allows for a singing tone in all registers of the bass. I can't recommend it more !!" - Tyler A. I would recommend either #9 or #10 depending on how much tack you want. It's a little hard to find right now, but is becoming more available.

My most recent purchase was Kolstein soft - it works, but I wish it took less pressure/effort to get it onto the strings. I've had it break hairs on bow that, admittedly, needed a rehair, but still, time for me to try softer. I will report on the Salzman #10 when it gets here, which should be later this week.

Both Salzman #9 & 10 work great for Orchestra stage, but it's easy to get too much on your bow, and it will powder up on your strings. I've found flicking the bow hairs with my thumb nail removes the extra after application. The best results though have been to USE SPARINGLY !! Less rehair with this rosin.

I just received some Salzman #10 today. Looks alot like pops. The packaging is similar. So far it seems very sticky with a lot of grip. I'm really hoping it doesn't dry out as quick as pops. I'm definitely going to order some of the #9. This might just be my new rosin.

Well, I ordered the #9 last night (I was torn between the 9 and 10, or maybe I should've gotten both #10 and #8). I guess I'll be extra mindful of how store it and be ready to try the revival methods. Maybe I should store it in a bag with a few drop of water as recommended by Contrabass Conversations?

Is Salzman still in business??? I have been trying to get in touch all week, but they have not replied to my emails nor answered the phone. I haven't received any shipping info, and there is nothing listed under "Recent Orders" when I log into their website.

My #9 rosin came yesterday, so yes, they are still in business and the shipping time was quite reasonable (1 week from when I placed my order to delivery day). Also, they did get back to me eventually, but Gmail sent it to spam :banghead:. The response time was a bit slow, but I'm not upset about it since they're probably a small operation, and I know those things can happen.

I've only played the rosin a little bit so far, using a brazilwood bow with white hair and a carbon fiber bow with salt-and-pepper hair, and so far, so good. I think maybe I should've gotten the #10. I also ended up with a cake of Kolstein's soft rosin. So far I prefer the Kolstein, but we'll see if that changes as the weather changes. The thing is, I really like the container for the Kolstein's: a silicone sleeve with a silicon cap, and paper container to put that in. I was getting so sick of the Pop's mess!
