Sam Ash wouldn't take my money!!!!!

Even more appropriate when you think about how kmart when bankrupt and walmart is the number one fortune 500 company in the country.

Guitar Center may have some crappy service but they make tons of money. They carry better gear than SA and they have much better used gear traded in because of it.

I know we all love to hate GC but I've gotten some decent deals there before... But then again I am probably in the best retail place geographically for bass stuff. Bass Central is 15 minutes away, GC is 5... Haha.

I dunno,The Sam Ash here in Columbus is alright.
I went in to get a Epiphone El Capitan ( my wife thinks they're pretty and asked if I wanted one)) so i go to the Acoustic room and no one is there.
I go to the greeter and ask for a salesman to assist me.
He shows right up,informs me that they don't have any in stock,calls Epiphone and checks to see if they have any in stock.He tells me they can't do special orders without 20% down but if I don't like it I'm under no obligations to buy.
I give him the 20% and leave 15 minutes later.
No issues.

I'm saying here in columbus. on morse road GREAT SAM ASH. I recently picked up a fiver spector legend classic and i had to go before i paid, and they held it all their, and got me it the next day great staff. YOu could have asked one of the people for help or tell them you want to buy it and they might have elped. That is strange that they were so distant and blunt though.

A few years ago I was in a home electricals shop to buy something boring (a fridge or something - about $400). It was a huge open plan place, and despite a line of a dozen or so people at the desk waiting to pay, there wasn't a sales guy in sight. We waited for 10mins in the line with everyone else.

Then I wandered over to a stack of DVD players that were right by the front door - about $1000 worth... Of course they had an alarm wire attatched, so I calmly just unplugged the alarm - then much to the amusement of the other people waiting I sat down on the stack of boxes and waited for someone to turn up and pay me some attention. Another 10 minutes of flashing lights, and sirens I still hadn't seen anyone who worked there, so I gave up and spent my cash somewhere else.

I guess everyone has different experiences in different places but every time I go into the Columbus SA I get met with arrogance. I know a girl who plays guitar at our church who actually had the salesman who sold her a Taylor acoustic totally hit on her all the time she was trying to buy it. She asked me to go check it out after she played it to make sure it was a good buy and he was totally asking me for her number. She was already engaged to a friend of mine but that didn't matter to him. Oh well, I guess my friends and I must have tattoos on our foreheads saying "Treat Us Like Crap", or something. :D

I read through the first page of this thread, sorry if this is a repeat. IMO, a lot of the older guys working at busy music stores are bummed to be there because every day, they're faced with working musicians who come into the store to buy things. They once wanted to be working musicians but for whatever reason, they had to get a day job, albeit in a music store. In my local shop, I've been a customer for 20 years, and there are a bunch of guys who I can go to whenever I need anything. However, there are guys in my department and especially some in the other departments (particularly rentals) who still enjoy making me stand at the counter for a few minutes while they wrap up the conversation they're having about what they had for lunch. Some of them have been there almost as long as I've been going there. That has to breed some resentment.

Jealousy makes people do a lot of weird things.

They may be an hour away from me but its totally worth it, I have bought two basses from them (no longer have them unfortunately) and they have the best CS ever.

+ Steve Fossen works there (of Heart) :bassist:
