Sandberg Lionel SS - Electronics replacement question

Background:
- Recently got this baby and love the build quality, playability, etc. However it's a "bright" bass and the pickup is HOT and down right harsh. Far from "vintage" sounding. No amount of EQ or string changes is going to satisfy me (I've tried).
- I have not opened it up and probably won't - I'll leave that to the local shop.
- I feel pretty certain there's a 500K tone pot in there. No idea about the tone cap.

Replacement plan: SD-SBP-1 with 250K tone pot and a .047 or .05 cap.
Not sure if the volume pot needs attention.

Question:

Should I go ahead and replace all the electronics or just tackle the tone pot and cap once we open the hood?

I don't mind it being a game day decision but was wondering if others had experience with this type of project and if it just makes sense to replace all the guts?
Parts don't cost much - not sure what the labor expense difference would be, if any.

Any other advice or suggestions are always appreciated. Thanks TB!

Hi @MJT

I just received my Sandberg Lionel and I have exactly the same issues.

I love the build quality, but I really don't like the "harsh" bright sound. Did you manage to change the pickups and how did it work out?
