Sanding scratched pickup pole pieces

Hi all,

I'm currently restoring on old Schecter Jazz. The 2 pickups have scratched pole pieces. I'm wondering how I can get these smooth again. I'm thinking about light sanding, maybe 600 grit or above to get the scratches out. Does anyone have any tips/ideas how I can do this?

FYI - the pickups have ceramic bar magnets so the actual pole pieces are just steel parts and not magnetised.

I'd recommend the little rubberized abrasive wheels that Stew-Mac (and other places) sell for polishing frets. You mount them on an arbor on a Dremel tool. That's exactly what they are made for: polishing scratches out of metal, working in a surrounded spot.
