a camo - painted bass would be the absolute last thing I'd ever do;if infact there were nothing but camo looking basses out there and noneother could be custom built ,I'd play trombone, or something else.
The important thing is that there are different people who will like different things.
So; go ahead and have one , if you want.

I was at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville on a Monday night a few years back and there was a guy with a camo outfit on and a camo-front acoustic guitar (in matching camo - Mossy Oak I think). When his turn came he started off with "My name is <whatever> and I write songs about girls and guns" and then he proceeded to play a rather good song that he had written about just those subjects. It all fit together, in my mind at least. I invited him to move to Texas where we appreciate that sort of thing.

Not sure if you intend some sort of a tribute to the military. Per wikipedia the Navy was the last service to use woodland BDU and they phased it out in 2012.

The Army and Air Force used a combat uniform with the same tonal pallete after they phased the woodland BDU out. Pockets were a bit different and the Army Combat Uniform (ACU) used a digital pattern while the Airman Battle Dress uniform (ABU) use and analog pattern. Currently both services are phasing in a new uniform called the OCP which stands for operational camouflage pattern. I believe it has the Army style pockets. The tonal pallete is a bit more brown and and the pattern is analog, so it appears to be moving back towards the woodland style.

I deployed a few years before the Air Force transitioned out of the woodland BDU, so I was lucky enough to be issued the new ABUs. When I returned from the deployment I was really used to seeing just about everyone in ACUs or ABUs. That's when I realized how monochromatic the ABUs were. The BDUs really looked garrish to me at that point, so I was happy to wear the new uniform.

Here's the OCP camo pattern that is being phased in.

As you can see it has a lot more brown than green, but otherwise looks very similar to the woodland camo pattern. Make sense given we are still involved largely in areas with lot's of arid land.

I was wondering when the military would get around to phasing in multicam. Used that stuff in paintball 10-15 years ago. I think that might have been about when it came out, seemed way more effective and versatile than anything out at the time.

Odd that the military seems to refute that it's multicam...

Non-American here: I find most military-themed items in very bad taste...having said that, it's a matter of taste. I personally find the vindication of violence, in the form of using out-of-context military symbology, a sad sign of us still living in the past and not being able to leave behind the love for machines made to kill.

Camouflage isn’t necessarily a military thing. It’s also a hunting, fishing, and outdoors thing.

That's true, there's also hunting, which is very usually a gun sport. I don't see how camouflage is a fishing thing though, other spillover from hunting.

But in any case, I want to clarify I am speaking from a very personal standpoint. There's nothing wrong per se with camouflage, but I don't like the strong associations around it. So I wouldn't paint my bass camo. Of course, it goes without saying...YMMV.

I hear you, I lived in Plano, TX quite a few years ago. I remember hunting is fairly popular around Xmas (from like November through early January). I do think guns in general are way more popular.

Now, back to the topic, from a purely aesthetic standpoint, I think the camouflage pattern on a bass is a bit too busy for my taste. I prefer plain colors (although I'm very much in favour of a good 3-tone sunburst). To the OP: if it itches you that way, you should absolutely scratch it and paint your axe camo. Life's too short to hesitate over things like this. If you have regrets, you can always strip it.

I definitely understood that was your personal feeing, and I respect that a ton.

as for fishing, camo is pretty popular amongst trout fisherman especially

Ha! must be something in the air besides Co-vid, I was thinking of vinyl wrapping one of my bass in a carbon fiber pattern with a camo- the new "digital" looking camo pattern its more tech looking(blocky). I for got what movie I was watching but the troops were wearing the more modern tech camo I thought it looked cool! maybe vice-versa, Camobody & carbon PG. Invalid Link Removed

Unless the "going insane" comment somehow mitigated that, I'm not sure how many other ways there are to interpret this. Please help clarify.
