I just got the SansAmp Bass Driver DI Programmable (3 Channels)
Stomp box. I'm looking for a nice distorsion tone. I used the sample settings but figured I might be able to get a better distorsion sound out of it. Anyone have any good setting suggestions for distorsion? Also where in my effects chain should it go?
Right now I have it:
Bass -> Boss tuner -> Sans amp -> flanger -> octave -> chours -> amp

I heard this was much better then the boss ODB-3 for distorision but honestly I think the boss OD has a better distorsion tone. I'm sure with tweaking the samsamp would have a better tone then the ODB. I'm clueless with effects I just started using them not too long ago even though I have had them for a while. lol I'm also going to be adding a POD XT Live pedal board to my chain

your chain order looks pretty good to me. as you may soon learn on here, there is often no right or wrong way to do things, it's a matter of painstaking experimentation :)

i hear your complaint about the sansamp's distortion. are you using an active or a passive bass? i use an active, set flat as per the manual. at times i have found decent settings, other times it sucks. it also seems to depend on volume, i remember one gig i really digged a nice overdriven tone i had happening..now..can't seem to get it back at practise.

for the record..the sansamp while not give you distortion, it'll be overdrive :P what's the difference? well... hehe

I use all active basses. For the most part on the bass I always have them set to flat there is one bass that I do push up the tone controls a little but that's because the basses output isn't as hot as the others. I don't have the manual for the sans amp :( Do I set the bass and treb to flat (12:00) on teh Sansamp as well?

When I was using the Boss ODB everyone said if I wanted a better distorsion tone to get the sans amp and that the ODB was just "ok"

What's a really good distorsion pedal for bass? And since that's what I'm looking for anyone want to trade for my sansamp? hehehe

Sansamp is not a distortion unit. It does overdrive but not distort. The best it can do is already documented in sample settings. You'll need a distortion unit in fron of it.

As per the your order of effects, I'd personally put octaver before Sansamp, but as the above poster said, it's all personal.

The ODB and the BDDI are designed for different types of sound. They are not really comparable, so anyone who said "get the BDDI for better distortion tone" was not communicating clearly with you, or they didn't understand what you needed.

Instead of asking "what's a good distortion", which is kind of a weak question TBH, maybe post here some Youtube or other links to the exact sounds you are trying to achieve, and we will tell whether there are any specific pedals that can get you those sounds. We can only help you if you give us something to work with. :)

I'm trying to think of a song or something that has the tone I'm looking for but now of course that I'm trying to think I'm drawing a blank. I guess when I add the POD XT Live pedal board to my chain I can play around with it. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to find a good distorsion setting with that thing. lol Let me try to think of a song that has what I'm looking for. ok I got one!! RED Hot Chili peppers around the world
I think parts of Rage against the machine Renegades of funk song has some distorsion on bass that I like or bulls on parade
