SansAmp XB Driver... BRAND NEW w/ PROBLEMS

It seems the unit intermittently decides to stop pushing out any tone. When this happens, nothing works except for the +10dB boost. The levels, the Master Volume, the tone knobs, nothing...? I found that if I unplug the unit and wait about 15 minutes and plug it back in, it works... But then goes dead again after a time. This just came yesterday (brand new) and I had high hopes for this XB. Unless I'm missing something really silly... Please help.

Thank you,
Brian "Womp" Tomsak

P.S. Yes, I'm using the power supply that came with the unit.

I would contact Tech21 directly, IME they are fast to respond and very helpful. In general I would say that Tech21 products have been some of the most reliable and durable on the market. However, everyone occasionally has an issue arise with a piece of gear. Tech21 customer support would be my first call and they will help you get this sorted.

It sounds like the unit is going into bypass mode. I'm not sure about the waiting 15 minutes thing. If the OP has a different power supply I would suggest trying that to rule out a power supply issue. You can also plug in a suitable 9 volt supply though the pedal won't work optimally. If none of this helps, reach out to the dealer to have it exchanged.

If you can’t return or exchange it, Tech 21 has some of the best customer service in the business. I had an issue with my PBDDI and they fixed it at minimal cost and shipped it back fast, all cleaned up - even though it was waaaay outside of any warranty. They’ll take care of ya.

Same, I had an issue with a VT DI years ago, that got fried after a gig, Tech 21 fixed it for free out of warranty. Great service.

If you've already returned it, please stop here.

If the switches are the type that make a good solid mechanical kachunk that you can feel, rather than a faint click, please stop here.

Okay. Unplug everything and take the unit to a desk or table where you can sit down in front of it. Plug in the power. Engage the unit so the On/Bypass LED is on. Now, very very slowly and gently, using your fingers, push down on that button again and again, keeping your eye on the LED the whole time. Slow and steady. Also try moving the button side to side as you push it down, again keeping your eye on the LED. Do this maybe 100 times. Let us know if you see anything unexpected.

Great, now I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens.

Not to worry lads, I’ve not gone ‘round the bend. Let’s see what he comes back with. If I see nothing after a couple of days, I’ll explain what I think the cause might be. I've got four Tech 21 boxes [*] and it was a problem on two of them, though it manifested itself slightly differently on each unit.

[*] 3-switch BDDI, 5-button BDDI, VTDI, and QStrip

I returned it. Even Tech21 was befuddled by the problem from what they told me. Perhaps I'll wait a year or so when the price comes down on them before I get another one. Shame because I had high hopes for this unit.
