and while we're at it, let's do away with all the driving laws.

speeding? get rid of it. we'll only charge those create dangerous situations by going 120mph on the high way in bumper to bumper traffic who then hit and kill someone.

traffic lights? screw 'em! so you're stopped at an intersection, as a long line of cars goes by. suddenly you see an opening that you think you can get through, so you go for it, creating a dangerous situation, but we'll only charge you if you hit a car and kill someone.

laws (especially traffic laws) were created as a preventable measure to ensure public safety. it doesn't matter how much you are impaired, once it is unsafe to operate a car, you shouldn't do it.

hypothetical situation- a guy is in a big heavy duty pick up truck. it's around 3pm. he get's pulled over, obviously drunk beyond the point of no return.... but there is a law in place that says it's legal to drive drunk unless you hurt someone, so the officer has to let him go. minutes later the same guy plows into and kills a group of girls leaving school, one of which is your little sister. sure we can prosecute this guy, but nothing is going to bring back your sister and her friends. all because we just HAD to give the guy the right to drive totally drunk.

THAT seems like the stupid law, if you ask me.

following your logic, that we should be allowed to drive drunk as long as we don't hurt anyone...

that means i should be able to take a fully automatic assault rifle, take it to 5th avenue in new york and fire away, as long as i don't hit anyone.

No, actually what he's saying is that I should be able to take my legally purchased, licensed gun out into the middle of a busy urban center and start popping caps. As long as I don't hit anyone, no harm, no foul.

This really is one of the stupidest debates I've seen on here in quite while! It may actually qualify for the HOF -- Paris Hilton going to jail = drunk driving should be legal? Yowza!

I've been lurking for years. While it's a decent effort, this ill attempt at political thought barely scratches the surface of some of the crap I've read.
