I would be careful about making a snap decision based on your experience at one event. Take the same exact rig on another gig, and you might think it sounds awful. IMHO the most significant factor in whether you get a good sound relates more to acoustics than the gear you use. Yes using good gear helps, but bad acoustics can make the best gear sound bad.

The misleading part is sometimes you have a gig where the sound is simply incredible. Acoustics and the way sound propagates is complex, and occasionally serendipity occurs, meaning a bunch of factors balance out/align just right so you get stellar sound.

Unfortunately you tend to get crappy sound more often than great sound.

So I am not saying an 800RB and D410XLT is not a nice rig...I am saying there is a good chance it won't always sound as great as it did at the jam session.

Before you invest in old, heavy gear considered getting a bit more perspective.

For the record I have quite a bit of experience with both the 800RB and D410XLT. Never played both at the same time, but I toured with each for a couple of years. These are nice sounding pieces, but they are also old and extremely heavy by today's standards.

OMG. Nothing truer or more useful has ever been written on TB.

Damn that tone mirage. Always taunting, rarely delivering.
