SBL: Quitting

Sometimes quitting is the right thing to do.
A lot of people need to try a lot of different things out to see what they like. If they never quit the things they don't like, how will they find the things they do like?

My friend's son joined the track team and hated it. His wife didn't want to let the boy quit, but I said to my friend, "The only thing you'll teach him if you don't let him quit something he hates is to not try anything new because he'll be stuck with it." My friend told him he could quit but he had to find something else to replace track. The kid tried rowing and loved it and was good at it. If they hadn't let him quit he would have been a mediocre runner, hating every minute, instead of a good rower, enjoying his sport.

I don't think that I have ever met anyone who didn't need to try something to find out if they liked it.
One issue that comes into this however is, that to 'try' something can mean different things to different people. There is a balance to be truck , I think.

I went back and fixed it. I meant a lot of people need to try a lot of things to find the one they like. I know a couple people that found their "thing" pretty quickly.

Very few things in life are absolute and “not quitting” isn’t one of them.

As always, it depends.
I always say quitting is guaranteed failure, but sometimes we fail. I think about sports analogies for this. Clyde Drexler failed against Michael Jordan when he played for Portland. Karl Malone failed against Jordan too, they were both great players and gave it there best shot. What else could they do?
