SBL: When is a bass maker no longer boutique?

This is a long video and I am not going to watch all of it, but it raises some good questions. I think many boutique makers now mainly license their designs. Frankly, I like that they do since I do not have the discretionary income for a true boutique bass, but I am very happy designs by Sadowsky, MTD, Spector, and Lakland, can be had a various price points.

Not to be a jerk but... do you expect me to watch all of it and offer opinions on pieces you didn't watch? I don't know what you're asking but I think I need better phrasing.

The profanity has become a common theme on SBL.

If profanity doesn’t bother you, have at it. That doesn’t mean everyone wants to hear it. If they don’t that doesn’t mean they are overreacting. It simply means I don’t have to listen if I don’t want to and that I would caution anyone with a young student that might tune in to try to learn something about bass . Isnt the name of the channel Scott’s Bass Lessons?

Fair enough, I haven't watched much of their more recent videos aside from this one and the ones where Ian has to try to nail different tones with his pedal (can't remember which one, maybe Helix?)

I have the great privilege to possess a Conklin Custom Shop bass made by Bill (presumably) within a year and a half before his death. I've heard rumors that Conklin will or is being revived by his surviving wife and others who worked with him, and to that end I hope it does and his vision is carried forward.

Even when the Groove Tools line was being produced, the originals were still 'boutique' to me.

Oh man, I sure hope they do…. it’s one of those builders I miss seeing.

In other words, SBL has gone from boutique to mass produced itself. Once something is mass produced, advertising and “buzz” are needed to maintain interest.

You're better off just not watching their channel. Don't switch to the short scale 6 string piccolo bass because of those two guys!

even in the beginning, I stopped watching SBL, just did not vibe with the guy. Occasionally, I get the channel pushed to me and I have to dislike 5-10 so it won't appear agin for a few months. You learn more from a real teacher or a master class from someone famous.

Well Pedulla is not being made anymore and I think my Japanese Tune is boutique but Tune was also divided to some Korean outfit, but they are small anyway and the Japanese Tune is still alive. IT's more like a bifurcation rather then diluting the brand. Why does it even matter?
