SBMM Joe Dart 2025 just dropped

Just curious: Anybody who's gotten one already, what was your order date and your delivery date? I ordered my JD II on 4/30, which I think was about halfway through the pre-order window. I still haven't gotten the confirmation of address that they say will come a few weeks before delivery. Just wondering what the relationship looks like between order date & delivery date. I'm excited to try that thing out!

The 2025 crop were available to order from 4/1 through 5/31. So you are correct that you ordered yours right in the middle of the window. My address confirmation email came exactly one week before it shipped.

I ordered mine a couple hours after they became available on 4/1. My address confirmation email came on Thursday 8/28, bass "shipped" (I think just the label was created) late on on Friday 9/5 which was the same date my address confirmation reply was due if I needed to make any changes, and I received it on Tuesday 9/9 (I am a 3.5 hour drive away from the warehouse they ship out of).

I ordered the JD III on 4/1.

I got a shipping notice on 9/5 followed by a "just kidding we didn't actually ship it" notice on 9/9.

Included in that note was "Your Joe Dart III Black is running a little behind schedule and will now be shipping out in about a week, around mid-September. "

Needless to say, that hasn't happened.

Sigh...

Looking at the counters, I'm a little surprised to see how few of the black ones were sold, 136, 158 and 158.

Ordered on 4/2, received about 3 weeks ago

Sterling by MM got back to me in less than 24 hours. They will exchange for a new bass, but it might take a few weeks as they are still making them. I'm very happy with the customer support. My other new hard-to-get gear, MXR Bass Synth pedal, also sadly has to be returned for a warranty repair. Both products are great aside from defects, and both company's customer support have been great. Just an unlucky month for me!
I just got notified my replacement Joe Dart is out for delivery, so I should get it today. SBMM customer support has been great. They said it may take 4-6 weeks from when they receive my damaged bass until I receive my replacement since they are making them to order and receiving from over seas. They received my damaged bass last Thursday and I'm getting the replacement today, only 8 days later. Really hoping FedEx doesn't botch this one up!

Good news !!!
I hope you'll receive it fast and without any surprises like last time.

I'm gonna be really annoyed if this one is bad too and you end up with 3 before mine comes.
So it arrived at my work but I can't get there for a few more hours. My boss sent me this picture. I truly despise FedEx.

Edit to add: when I shipped my 1st Joe Dart back to SBMM, they gave me a prepaid shipping label through FedEx. The same day I shipped the joe Dart I also had to ship my Khan DI to a TalkBass user who purchased it. Due to past bad experiences, I dropped off the Joe Dart with FedEx then drove across town to give the USPS my package and money instead of just using FedEx while I was already there.

I hope the new bass is fine despite the gaping hole in the box.

I ordered a JD lll in black near the end - 5/24/2025 - hoping it arrives sometime in October 🤞

Not to rain on your parade, but it might take longer. I ordered on 4/30, one month into the preorder and right in the middle of the two month window. I was hopeful that the production timeline would mirror the preorder timeline. But so far, from what I've gathered here and on Reddit from those who have started receiving theirs, the production process is much slower. We're a month into production and I haven't even gotten my address confirmation yet, which SBMM said would come a few weeks before delivery…

Sorry man, but I'm in a similar boat. It'll make it that much sweeter when they finally arrive.

Good news! My replacement JD1 in black is not damaged, despite a gaping hole and tire tread marks on the box. I think FedEx drove a cart or something over it. SBMM wrapped the body in bubble wrap inside the gig bag this time. The bass is just as good as the first damaged one I received (minus the damage).

I tried it on a gig last night, a couple hours after I opened the box and it did great, but it's so unique it won't work for very many projects I feel. Time will tell.

One of my local friends reached out to SBMM for an update/estimate on his JD2 in black delivery times. He ordered his around 5/1, the halfway point. They got back to him and said unfortunately things are running behind schedule. I don't remember the specific amount of time he said they were behind. I'm glad they took care of me but feel bad for everyone else still waiting.

So I played my JD1 on another gig last night, but this time I lowered the pickup first and it made a HUGE difference/improvement. It was difficult to lower it, as 2 of the 3 pickup screws were super tight. It feels almost like they drilled the pilot holes only down to spec, and screwing them in any further is cutting into the wood (difficult to do with a tiny screwdriver). I'm considering taking the screws out and drilling in deeper pilot holes in the future, but for now it's fine as is.

Anyways I got the pickup lowered a substantial amount before my screwdriver wanted to start stripping the screw heads, and it IMO made an improvement in how the bass played and sounded. Before, it took a sensitive touch to find the balance between digging in too hard or soft, but now it's much more balanced and forgiving. The output level is no longer too hot, so it's not slamming my inputs. It's not so "barky," and sounds more rounded overall. But it still sounds like a mids-forward Joe Dart and cuts through the mix like crazy.

My first two gigs with the JD1, my band mates said, "yeah it's cool but I think I like your other bass better for this band." At yesterday's gig (after lowering the pickup height), my same bandmates changed their mind and said, "that bass sounds great! It's got serious mojo!"

Anyone here have a JD3 review to share. I've seen the ones on YouTube already .
Mines really grown on me. The neck has a great finish and super comfortable shape/carve to it. Feels in between a C and U shaped. Fretwork is good on mine. The balance is good not great, mine weights 7lb 12oz, so will upgrade to ultralite tuners if I keep it. The pickup is interesting, its very loud and also very bright. It def sounds better lower and myself and other folx have been finding it sounds good to keep the volume knob between 75-90% to help with the super high output.
