SBMM Stingray Short scale

So I’m gonna have my SBMM’s bridge replated in black chrome and the quote I got seems really reasonable except for the saddle height hex screws, intonation screws, and springs. The price seems a little high for those pieces that seem like I should maybe be able to find replacements that work that are already in black. Anyone with previous SBMM experience know where I might try for replacements? SBMM is of no help as they’ll only give chrome replacements if that’s what your instrument came with and offer no alternatives.
Who is doing the work for you? I've never heard of having bridges "replated" before and would love to check it out. You could probably just buy black screws at a local hardware store. Saves you the cost on those.

advanced plating/advanced music products! They appear to do great work and have good reviews from what I can see.

it’s definitely not cheap (About the price of a new bridge). Getting a whole black one from EB for my EBMM was cheaper than it will be to get this one replated but not by much

the screws were all like 3 bucks each which seemed wild for parts that had to have been cheap. I notice Ernie Ball sells replacement saddles for like $20 I might buy those and see if they fit or can be scavenged from.

I think you are likely correct but that was the only guage GHS had in short scale. Let us know what you think of your new strings.

You can get short scale Boomers in .50-.107, I have them on a Mustang PJ tuned to Eb. Very high string tension, which I like as I play fast punk with a pick, and the sound seems pretty darn similar to long scale Boomers I've got on another bass.

The Advanced Plating in TN, correct? They have an amazing gallery of cars they've worked on. I'd suggest finding some black screws at the hardware store. You can probably get all you need for only $3. Either way, best of luck!

Yup that would be them! They replate stuff for cars and music equipment really nice dudes it would seem!

I put on the D'addario Prosteel 45-100 short scale strings on today. I had to raise the strings a tad but I really like them. They have an even clear tone with a nice top end without being harsh or edgy. I have the long scale Prosteel 45-105 version on my Squier P bass and like them on that also. I'm pretty happy with these tuning keys, they are doing the job. I had similar or the same ones on my Squier and they were aweful. One of them was so bad it wouldn't even make a complete revolution without binding to a halt and I had making metal shavings everywhere. I'm sure the tuning keys on the EBMM short scale are better than these but for an extra $1,500 you better be getting something. I wonder if the wiring harness, electronics and pots inside this Sterling are as immaculate and tidy as what I seen in a photo of the EBMM short scale wiring, just beautiful! Anyone taken their pick guard off for a look inside? When I saw the inside wiring and soldering on my Ibanez TMB100 I had a rude awakening, it looked like a nursery school kid did it. My Squier CV 60 's Precision was not much better so I rewired it with a new harness with much better pots. So far other than new strings I think I am going to keep my short scale stock. If it's not broke don't fix it.

I see it now ( bottom), looks about as shabby as what was in my Squier but better than my Ibanez. Probably made at the same plant in Indonesia. I said I was going to keep mine stock but after seeing the difference in guts between these two I'm not so sure anymore. That has to make some sonic difference no matter how small. Wonder if it would be possible to just buy the wiring harness, electronics and pots from Musicman for the short scale and put it in the Sterling?

I believe Ernie Ball has their pots for sale in their shop. I didn’t see the 3 way switch they use tho. I’m replacing both my EBMM and SBMM with pure tone input jacks tho so they can be black as I’m blacking out the hardware on both Basses.

Definitely gonna upgrade the wiring in my SBMM once I decide what I’d like to do pickup wise with it to make it standout from my EBMM. Which is tough cause I think I actually like the stock pickup lol.

I like the stock pickup also. They advertise it having neodymium magnets but I really didn't notice it being any hotter than on my other basses. If anything I have to turn the volume up slightly on my amp to match the output of my Squier and my Ibanez being active I have to either turn down or use the 10db cut switch on my amp. I have the pure tone jacks on my Squier. They came as a free upgrade on my 920D Custom Shop wiring harness. Let us know whatever you do

Are the pickups similar height between the Basses?

No, the one on the Sterling is up higher closer to the strings than the pickups on either of my other 2 basses.

my understanding is that with the push pot in the down position it’s actually a pad and the pushing it to the up position is the true output of the pickup (probably describing this wrong) but I could be mistaken

I couldn't say for sure, but it certainly feels like that's the case. I imagine a passive pad would be easier & cheaper to put in than a boost, at any rate. I've taken to playing it with the volume knob out, probably all in my head but it just feels like there's a bit "more" there.

Changed the strings for the first time since I got it, same set as stock, and wow. I didn't realise how dead they'd gone so fast - sounds amazing with fresh rounds on. Usually like them a bit more broken in, but sadly might have to up my string budget to an extra pack or so a year.

To me with the volume knob out it sounds like more than just a volume boost, it sounds more weighty too. I like to have it out in passive mode most all the time and it sounds good in single coil also, but in series it can sound a bit thick and muddy at least in my room. In a live situation things could change. I change my strings every 2 months. If I could afford to I'd do it every week.

Sorry for the noob question...did anyone noticed their pickup is really wobbly? I have the pick up height set to 4.76mm from the top of the plastic between the pickup covers to the bottom of the G string.

Thanks!
