SBMM Stingray Short scale

I'm actually liking the stock Slinky strings on here. I didn't care for them so much on my Squier P bass when I tried some once, but they sound great on this Sterling. Does anyone know the exact model number of this string for future reference? Also any recommendations on a hard shell case that it will fit nicely into? Thanks.
regular slinkys and they’re the green pack.

Got to play around with the bass some more tonite. It is still hard for me to believe this thing is passive. I'm getting a nice metallic top end if I strike the string just right, almost sounds as if someone wearing taps on their shoes is matching all my hits. The odd thing though is I don't get this on the G string, only on the bottom 3 strings and I'm wondering why. Anyone else notice this or is mine an odd ball or do I have a bad G string. The G string sure sounds good other wise. Not sure which position I prefer on the pickup switch yet, it kinda changes depending on the song I'm playing. The position all the way to right which I think is the series position sounds a bit thick and muddy to me but it could be my small room environment and things could surely change in a live setting. Does the volume button (boost) do anything other than add volume? It's hard to tell in my room.

I noticed that the nut on mine is cut higher on the E string and lowers towards the G string. Never seen this on my other basses. Normal or should I try to sand it down and even it out?

To me this is a perfect cut. It's the bottom of the slots that are the same height. The top of the nut is based on about half the string diameter above the slot bottom. So the taper across the top makes sense.

That's not just a nice bass and nice amp, it's a nice room too! I'd love to hang out there and play some music! The craftsman and mission styles are faves of mine.

Thanks, it actually was a crummy drab looking place when I moved in, but being retired with time on my hands I spent a year and a half fixing it up and decorating it to suit my lifestyle. Women seem to like it, then I try to impress them with my bass playing ☺. It's amazing the number of women I've played for who don't even know what bass is or what it even sounds like in a song until I demonstrate. I tell them when a guitar player makes a mistake most people don't care or even notice, but when a bass player screws up everyone on the dance floor stops and looks at each like what the hell just happened?

This is my other baby, a Squier CV Precision heavily modified. I put some Fralin pickups in it and gutted the stock electronics added Hipshot tuners and an Omega bridge doing all the work myself. This thing sounds absolutely killer! I love my new Sterling Stingray but if I could only keep one bass and one had to be put out into the cold, the Precision would still have a warm home.

In my experience most low-mid price basses need the nut slots cut a little deeper - and that's what I did on this one. General rule is that strings should just clear F1 when stopped at F3. I hesitated for ages before investing in a set of good quality slotting files but never regretted it. You just have to be careful and go easy.

Experimenting with the push button volume boost I feel it's doing more than just increasing volume. I'm getting a bit more bottom end bloom also. I really like it in the parallel setting which is bit quieter than the other two settings and can sound a bit thin. I like it less so in single coil, and not at all in series which I feel already sounds bloomy. Another thing I've noticed is this bass seems to love the volume control maxed out or nearly maxed. It responds with much more clarity, top end punch and authority. I pretty much set my volume where I want it on my amp and nearly max it on my bass. Anyone else either confirm these findings or feel differently? Everytime I pick up my P bass now it feels like a monster in comparison. It has a beasty bottom end the Stingray just can't match. I feel the Ray just cuts through so much better though, but depending on the song sometimes only my P bass will do. The Stingray is sure a joy to play and I'm loving that. I ordered a hard shell case for it which should arrive next weekend. I'm just hoping the bass fits inside alright. I'll post some pictures of the bass inside its new home after I get it.

That Sunburst with roasted maple neck is gorgeous! That would be my pick if I had the extra money. I'm loving my Daphne Blue color though. Really interested to hear your thoughts on how the Sterling version stacks up, particulary soundwise.

Good review of the P-bass vs. SS Ray comparison. I have an SS P, so this leads me even more to wanting to save some coin and get the Ray.

I can’t help wonder what adding a P style pickup would potentially sound like on one of these SBMM.. I don’t mind having a router taken to the bass and having a custom pick guard ordered for it if it could lead to interesting tones.

every time I see a picture of a vintage sunburst EBMM I get a little more gear envy but then again if I had gotten that one I’d probably feel the same way about every picture of a starry night one I saw too. It’s a struggle.
