SBMM Stingray Short scale

I installed the Hipshot tuners today and a different string retainer I had to match the Nickel tuners.

Alignment looks perfect!

Did you need to shim the tuning peg holes?

:D I did have to put a couple of wraps of that metal HVAC tape around the bushing/sleeves for a tight fit cause it was a little loose. I did reach out to Hipshot and there is a thicker sleeve/bushing for the Made in Mexico fenders and they are sending me a set for free and hoping those sleeves fit tight but the HVAC tape worked perfect for now.

Dang... it’s looking like all the Starry Night Short Scales might be sold out. Fingers crossed my sweetwater rep pulls through! I hope next years colors are as nice as this years and not like the first set.

You should go to Sweetwater’s site now. They have the SS in stock! Starry Night and the other color.

I just got confirmation of my order! My sweetwater rep took care of me and I should have it by Friday! Can’t wait! Grabbed one that was 7lbs 9oz as it looked to have the best grain on the neck. The 7lbs 3 oz was tempting due to it being the lightest but it’s headstock was stained splotchy and the 7lbs 5oz I wasn’t a fan of the knot in the grain on the back of the neck. So it’s one of the heavier ones they had but still under 8lbs. Can’t wait to get it!

Just checked them out. Overall they look beautiful but not a fan of the different color on the back of the neck and headstock. Curious, do you know why that is?

My understanding is the neck on this years EBMM are all roasted maple. The backs are unfinished and need occasionally oiled and I’m assuming the headstock are finished? That’s where the line between the 2 is?

I have ... a Nordstrand MM pickup 70's winding on the way.
Interesting; I image that will be rather different from the stock pickup with neodymium magnets. I'll be curious to know how they compare in terms of output and sound. (My hunch, having once 'passified' a Stingray-type bass, is that the neo pickup was designed to beef up the lows due to the pickup's bridge-ward location.)

So I ordered the burst one from sweetwater, my friend ordered the stary night AFTER me. He got his today, mine is going to sit in the california heat wave and I get it NEXT TUESDAY. They both shipped yesterday.
My sales guy has been far less than honest for a long time and its my fault for sticking with him. When I asked him about it they moved me to another account. I have now switched to my friends rep, Im better off for it but it really bothers me this bass is sitting in the So Cal heat wave when it was not necessary. It also bothers me that my old rep the guy who does not have a relationship with the truth or customer retention is getting credit for the sale.

whoa did your friend get free overnight shipping or something? I paid for 2 day shipping and should get it Friday because it was gonna take until like the 10th or something otherwise and like you said I didn’t want it sitting in the truck. Sorry that’s happened to you. Have it checked out and if it’s messed up send it back for a replacement! How’s your buddy like his??? I kinda wish the colors had the opposite necks but still love them both.

Its a long story I don't want bore you and everyone else plus I'm too angry to think about sweetwater right now....

my buddy loves his..I've tried to get him to join talkbass , he does read these posts. If you read some of my earlier posts ,I've posted his pictures of the stary night from namm. And his elf stuff in the combo section....anyway he agrees with you about the necks. He texted me pics. The case is really nice. He loves the tones but said the rotary switch is really nice....ill ask him if he wants me to post anything, if he does ill put it here...he is really talented and has an amazing ear I hope he joins ....out of all the forums I belong too this is the most positive helpful group on the planet.

I'm not following closely because I'm jealous that I have a blue and not a starry night Stingray :) , but wondering why you guys are sharing about the Musicman SS in the SBMM thread? It might be confusing to future readers, especially since this thread is so long.

There are 2 Musicman SS Stingray threads... in case you weren't aware Short scale Stingray!

Not sure the title of the other but I'm gonna look for it later and ask the mods if they'd consider retitled them. The exclamation point in the linked thread makes it not show up in a search, and there's something weird about the other title too.

Hoping this post doesn't come off in a wrong way :) . Looking to be helpful, as I know those Musicman threads are difficult to find. Haven't checked, so I don't know if anyone is posting there too.

[edit] Just found the 2nd thread... which kinda fizzled out I guess Ernie Ball Music Man Unveils Short Scale Stingray Bass
