SBMM Stingray Short scale

Do it. I love seeing mods. Right now I got the Daphne SBMM shorty and I want the Olympic White shorty. One bass for standard tuning and the other for D standard tuning which fits my singing voice. Then I want to neck swap. I prefer the Rosewood on the Daphne and the Maple on the White. I have a white pearloid pkgrd coming for the Daphne and would get a red or purple pearloid pkgrd for the white stingray or an all black pkgrd.
Hah, I remember when someone else was talking about buying two of these and swapping necks! Hmm...what ever happened to that guy? ;)

My Sterling Shorty got here today (in white/rosewood)! W00t! No bag though:(
Been keeping up with all your posts since I started looking into buying my first bass earlier in the year. So thank y’all for sharing all the info and helping be decide on this lovely bass<3
I started as a drummer, learned some guitar, and now I’m looking to spend some quality time with this shorty lol
Side question: I noticed there’s a gap where the neck meets the body on the side closest to the E string, whereas there’s little-to-no gap on the side closest to the G string, should I be worried and get this setup? I can try to set it up myself, but what do y’all think?
I’ll post pics for reference! (ft. my cat Blu)

The one I had but returned definitely had a better seated neck than that but I’m noticing your pick guard looks like it was actually made for the bass. The one I had looked like it’d been crudely routed from a left over of one that wasn’t made for it at the truss rod.

I remember reading about your pick guard issue, did you ever re-order the bass? If I look closely I can see where they may have made adjustments to the pick guard.

Should I just get it re-seated? Or leave it be?
And if I do need it re-seated, does anyone have any Luthier recommendations in the L.A. area?

Congrats on your new bass! The grain and coloring on your neck looks sweet.

You'll want to hear from people who know what they're talking about, but I wouldn't think about the pocket fit unless it bothers you.

The strings look like they are centered in the neck which they weren't on my Daphne even though my neck/body joint was tight. The nut on mine was cut while someone was thinking about something else.

Is there some relief in the neck? Is the intonation good? Is the action reasonable? If it is, you might be able to love it just as it is. :bassist:

I noticed that the saddles seem to be near the end of their travel, but I've looked at other examples and saw the same thing.

Very nice! Glad the community helped you out.

Yeah, the neck issue means you should certainly just send that bass over here to me. I'd not want you to have to stare at it all the time you're trying to play! :roflmao:

OK, now seriously, I don't think it matters. If you have a good sound, and think it plays well, then you're in good shape. Unless it makes you obsess, in which case I'll gladly take it off your hands! :smug:

Not sure about the neck but that looks beautiful in white. I’m going to check my neck now.

Just got notification that my new Olympic White one shipped and will be to my house come Tuesday. Fingers crossed this one will come without a sanded down headstock and crooked neck! Got a black/parchment/black pick guard coming for it. Already have a carbon fiber control panel and black Hipshot HB7’s ready to go on it as well. Just gotta order up some black knobs and strap locks for it and it’ll be blacked out minus the bridge. Waiting a quote on having the bridge re-plated in black chrome and this thing will be a BEAST.

I wouldn’t worry about the tiny gap. The alternative could have been that it was too tight and a hard enough knock on the headstock or a sudden temperature change could have caused the neck pocket to crack, as is the case with one of my basses. Better to be a tiny bit loose than overly tight in my opinion. I wouldn’t chance sending this one back anyway. That neck is beautiful! And who knows if you’d get another one that isn’t as nice. I’m a bit envious haha, enjoy!
