SBMM Stingray Short scale

Still loving each minute of this Bass
Hope you guys are too
I also am getting better at mix on recording a video of the little feller .
Learn a little more each time !
But not my thing on that side
Too Impatient !
I do believe in a great studio it will really shine I have not tried it yet .
But I know it will be great .

Oh man! The beautiful tone and great sustain I hear on this vid has convinced me!
-Got to try one of these Sterling short scalers soon!!
(Oh, and nice playing also...) :smug:
Enjoy,

It's worth checking out his channel. He has a number of covers/demos using this bass. Including one with flatwounds that is awesome.

Got mine off of reverb, the place I got it from offers a ton of options
And it fits the short scale without filing or sanding it? So what place is this you got it from?
I did find one seller on ebay that has them and actually says they'll only fit SS's and no other Sterlings. -But they want $35 for them and that's a bit steep for a pickguard, no?

Reason I'm asking is I'm considering getting a white SS that's on sale, but I'd definitely wanna replace that white pickguard. I think a dark maroon guard would really go well with a white short scale and it's darker neck...

Hard to say. But given their very generous return policy it's a potential good deal.

Hmmmm.... Thas true. I was in GC just yesterday asking about these basses and a nice helpful sales guy said they never know when they'll get them in the store, but if I ordered one and didn't like it I could return it, no questions asked, within 45 days...

So what do places like Zzounds, Sweetwater and GC do with the basses that are returned before 45 days grace periods etc? They can't sell them as new and I've never see returned basses like new advertised for sale at reduced prices on their sites, just blemished ones and all returned ones can't all be blemished.

My guess is they get sold to resellers and end up on places like ebay and reverb as either NOS or Mint condition basses. Sort of like how all those clothes end up at Marshalls. It's better for them to sell it to you and promise to take it back than to keep you thinking about it. And it also keeps people like us looking and buying from GC even though we all claim it sucks.

By the way does anyone have experience with Sterling customer service? I sent them an email a week ago regarding 2 defective tuners on my short scale that are giving me issues that I'm not happy with. I got an intial reply the very same day asking for more info and copy of my receipt and since sending the asked for info haven't heard a thing even after sending the asked for info twice. They can't be that busy.

I have about a 67% satisfaction rate.

The springs under the pickup were missing from mine. I talked on the phone with customer service and was pleasantly surprised to get two springs in the mail the next week.

I followed up with an email to ask for the third spring and never heard back.

It’s made for this model only so no adjustment needed

I had a tuner that rattled. It took two emails before they responded but once I provided proof of purchase I had a replacement within a week. All things considered, no better or worse than my experience with G&L.

I almost always look for “blemished” stuff from ZZounds or Sweetwater. It’s a pretty safe way to save at least 10-15%. I bought a “blemished” Daphne blue short scale for $459 from ZZounds last October. I went over that bass with a fine tooth comb and couldn’t find a thing wrong with it.

Could anyone who owns the Sterling short scale provide the measurement from nut to pickup? I am looking to install a MM pickup into a Mustang short scale bass and am curious if the pickup "sweet spot" on the SS4 (which sounds pretty damn sweet by all accounts!) has the same nut to pickup ratio as the long scale.
