SBMM Stingray Short scale

Could anyone who owns the Sterling short scale provide the measurement from nut to pickup? I am looking to install a MM pickup into a Mustang short scale bass and am curious if the pickup "sweet spot" on the SS4 (which sounds pretty damn sweet by all accounts!) has the same nut to pickup ratio as the long scale.
MM in the middle position sound great too

26.813" from nut to center of pickup

Ordered the Sterling SS from GC online this morning. $504 on sale, for an all white one. I sort of like the new dropped copper color, but it's not available yet and will probably not be on sale when it is. However this way I could order a different pickguard later and basically make this bass almost any color I want. -Can even do a 'reverse' dropped copper color if I want...

Don't like to buy w/o trying first but a GC is close to me and I can easily return this iffen she don't fit right. Have to give it a good try tho as I really liked the beautiful sounds I heard coming out of this Sterling SS here on TB!
And then I always wanted to play a MM style bass but found the full scale Sterling versions too beefy. And as an amateur bass doodler I can't justify spending big $$ for the new USA small scale version MM, so this Sterling shorty is priced pretty good for me.

The search for my 'perfect' bass goes on...
-Am really hoping this one fits!! :hyper:
Enjoy,

So what do places like Zzounds, Sweetwater and GC do with the basses that are returned before 45 days grace periods etc? They can't sell them as new and I've never see returned basses like new advertised for sale at reduced prices on their sites, just blemished ones and all returned ones can't all be blemished.
At Sam Ash (when I worked there) we would simply sell it as new to the next guy. If he returned it, a third person would eventually buy that “new” instrument at full price. We had new instruments on the sales floor with missing knobs and chipped paint. I didn’t work in the guitar/bass department FWIW.

Interesting. At my local GC, they sold me a 'new' Mustang PJ bass for just over $400 because it had been on the wall for a while, or they just wanted the sale. I bet I wasn't the first person to buy it. I ended up returning it for my SBMM short scale. The Mustang is probably still there waiting for the next person who will buy and return it.

I think that happened with my “new” Mustang PJ also. When I got it, it seemed a little bit worn in and I think they also left it sitting in the sun in the window for a long time. The pickguard was warped and the red sticker had bled into the plastic somehow and the finish had yellowed around the edges (which I didn’t notice when I was in the shop) .. I ended up re-selling it and replacing it with the Stingray. This was a great decision. I think the Stingray’s feel and look is a lot better, and it doesn’t suffer from neckdive like the Mustang.

Prices are now dropping on white Sterling shortys; $504 at GC, $501 at Amazon, both with free shipping. I used GC however because of the ease of any returns. And I don't care that much myself about buying an instrument that's been previously returned providing it's either in mint shape, or else they tell you about it and reduce it for an open box sale. (And I suspect the only 'blemishes' on many models sold by dealers for less are just fingerprints...)
But I wonder if the price reductions on these supposedly new and yet unsold white Sterling shortys might be because of the forthcoming(?) new "Dropped Copper" color? Maybe Sterling needs to clear out inventory to make room for the new model?

I'm going to order a dropped copper in the next 2 days from somebody. Not sure who may be best to buy from. One place on Reverb expects to have stock in the next day or two. GC doesn't say when they expect stock. I would probably lean toward GC because of the return policy though. Anyone else I should look at?

Any reason the red short scale stingrays are still in stock? I see they are ebony fret board. Thinking about grabbing one and didn't know if there was something going on I wasn't aware of.
I don't think so. The Daphne Blue seems to be the most popular color and while I don't dislike the dropped copper I would not buy anything with ebony. I just don't agree with it ecologically. Not saying anyone else thinks that but I always bang that drum. Ebony needs to be avoided.

That Reverb seller relisted and the expected ship date is now in May. I don't guess anyone is getting dropped copper any time soon....

The forthcoming "Dropped Copper" Sterling shorty ads show a maple neck and definitely not ebony (nor rosewood). Which IMO is a glaring mismatch for that color bass. What with it's shiny maroon body, white pick guard, and light yellow maple neck it looks to me like somebody wearing 1970's clothes in the 2020's! :vomit:

It wouldn't be so bad if it were roasted maple but rosewood or ebony would surely be my preference over the stock maple. I'm beginning to think Sterling customer service is really bad, sent my fourth email today regarding the 2 bad tuners and getting absolutely nowhere. I guess it's time for a phone call next if they even bother to answer calls. I'm pretty certain EBMM would not operate this way, at least I would hope not.

There are responsible harvesters of ebony. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

While I would probably rather have an ebony fretboard as well with the dropped copper color, I must say I do like the maple look with it also. It kind of gives me that '50's cruiser vibe.
