SBMM SUBs..yes, it's about to become even more confusing

Well I finally got to try one of the SUBS. It was the SB14 with the thing Sterling neck. I have to say that I was quite impressed. Is it the same quality as a TRUE EBMM? No, but its worth all of $279 and then some. It was fairly light, and that's where I can see some of the differences. The bridge is a big difference from the more expensive Sterlings. The sound an preamp was a tiny bit weaker, but too noticeable. The neck and tuners were very solid with nice fast action.

The walnut stain finish was very nice, and if I pick up a 5 string, it will have this finish.

So today I take my jaguar Squier in to be adjusted and ended up buying the SB4. Honestly I thought I was actually looking at the SB Ray 4. I played it back to back against the Ray34, and through the same amp.
I'm just a hobby player but I can hear.:D
Honestly the sound between the two were really close. First I didn't like the seal on the Rays neck. Second, I didnt like the Rays colour.
I ended up leaving my Jag for the SB4. It wasn't until I got home that I realized something looked different.
Went to the web and couldn't find the model in SIMM web.
Called Praxis and spoke with Mike he states the SB4is exclusive to GC and MF?
Uh? I men wow! Lucky me. I like the bottom input jack, I didn't like the chrome front panel. I like clean bodies.
I love this thing. It just goes to show if you play any level of bass , buy what your wallet and ears approve of.
Only thing ill get is a white pearloid pick guard and some dome knobs from all parts.:hyper:
Sorry so long , first post

So, I'm thinking of replacing the PUP.
I'm it sure yet what will fit?
Any ideas on what will sound more MM like.
I like EMG and Bart's.
Also I think a bridge will improve the tone, thought on that?

EMG and Barts are good... but not really MM sounding.
Go for Seymour Duncan or Nordstrand if you want something closer to MM.
I particularly like the Basslines SMB4A model, alnico.

As for bridge... you will not get a change in sound so don't bother.

Hi fellow SBMM SUB owners!

I sold my OLP MM2 get this Walnut Stain Ray4 for $399AUD and I got the sweet baby today from Allan's Music. I am stoked with the feel and sound. Setup nicely but would definitely chuck better strings later. I've played with it for about 30 mins in the shop and the neck plays really nice (reminds me of my fender jazz) and the tone you can get is pretty sweet.

My only gripe thou is when I got home to caress it, I saw some little discolouration marks around the neck area particularly the headstock and near the heel. Not too sure if its visible in my pic but it looks like when something's been held and rubbed for too long causing the finish to fade around the corners and looks like a line of faded wood.

Not big of a deal really, but its the only bass I bought brand new as all my other basses are bought 2nd hand, so yeah....any of your basses came to this point already or is this something that only I experienced?
