SBMM SUBs..yes, it's about to become even more confusing

The bridges and pickups look almost identical to the one on the old OLP line. Maybe they had a bunch of stock left over?
Yeah, bears more of a resemblance to OLP than the original SUB. At that price-point we can only assume they will be very OLP-ish, and SUB only in name. So where's a Sterling SUB Sterling?
My guess is that these are made in the same plant / complex in Indonesia as the Squiers VM series. Will probably have similar satin necks, color options (long term) and pot/pickup quality.
Thats not a bad thing, necessarily. I once explained my Squier VM and the whole "liscensed by Fender" thing to my father, who has dealt with wood suppliers before, and he said Indonesia has a reputation in the wood industry for relative quality overseas.

Check out GC used site. 399 OR LESS and they usually have 1-2 show up every couple weeks.
It'll be worth trying one of these when they pop into the store. The SBMM Rays seem to have done a pretty amazing job of matching EBMM Rays for a lower price, so it makes me curious to see what they've accomplished here.

If they are on par with the original SUB, that is outrageous. Indonesia puts out some good stuff (the original Peavey Cirrus BXP). If they have the same two-band active electronics as other MM's this could be amazing.
I could really use a white one though. Looking forward to the test drive.

These are not cheaper versions of the US Sub bass. They are just using the name. They don't seem to have anything in common with them. They are just an even lower entry point into the Musicman design.
I have seen a few lately for the $400 or less pricepoint. They can be found on this forum for around that as well. Also you can search craigslists nationally through a few different websites.

They have a contoured body, a standard paint job and pickguard, and a non-painted neck. How are they anything like the older US made SUB basses?
None of the Sterling by MM line have US electronics so my guess would be, no.

Regardless of the overall quality it is a smart move. There are now basses in every price range. Being on par with the VM squiers is nothing to be ashamed of.
I am tempted by the walnut. If they look good up close and play half decent i will get one. Even if the bridge/tuners/pup needs changing you still might have a good bass for little money.
