I sanded and polished the neck, and then got heavy handed cleaning the nut slot and chipped the finish. Started filling that this evening.
Body assembly today. The tone pot with the dpdt switch makes things a little crowded. I soldered everything outside of the body and then pushed it all into place. While it doesn't create its own sound yet, it will amplify the sound of a bass placed in front of it. 
Frets leveled, filed, and polished.
Tuner time - Grover 142C4 - they're heavy, but look nice, work great, and are nicely priced. My first time pressing in ferrules, and I was kind of nervous about it. I cut an 80 grit adhesive-backed sanding disc into strips, wrapped them on a socket, and used that to enlarge the tuner holes to just under the size of the knurling. Rubbed a little wax on each one, F clamp with a block on the backside and they went in without a fuss.
Assembled everything and played around a while - I am very pleased! There is a little set-up still to do, and then I'll get some final pictures up.

I have tightened the truss rod in a few stages, 1/2 turn altogether, and it's pretty close to what I want. I'll tweak the saddle height and intonation, and may file the nut just a touch. The Allparts jazz neck is nice - jazz width with a beefier back on it.
Outside pictures in full sun make it look pretty light.
Inside pictures are a little dark. The fir has a chatoyance that kind of changes with its environment.
The pieced-together nature of the body is certainly visible, although kind of understated. It's visible in this picture of the electrosocket. Speaking of which, I would have liked the jack to be close to flush, but the tip would have grounded on the tone pot. One of the little things I'll probably do a little differently on the next go 'round. For now I'm playing it!

It has a few warts, as a first try I am very happy. I'll play it a while to figure out what I like and what I don't, and then do a full build. First impressions - I like the stacked Seymour Duncan. From good 'ol dumpy thumpy when played at the neck with both coils and the tone down, to bright and snappy when switched to single coil with the tone up and played between the pickup and bridge. I have Reaper and an interface that I have only briefly messed with - I'll set that up sometime this week and see if I can get some recordings.

Well. . . this serves as evidence that; my bass produces electrical signals, I am barely able to use Reaper & MT-PowerDrumKit, and years of isolated noodling has left me sloppy. 
Bass is straight into the interface and computer. Both coils, tone all of the way down and played at the neck with no fx or eq. I'll get some others up at some point - for the practice if nothing else!
