If it's just a matter of making a new pick guard, trimming the pup route a little and you can put it all back if you don't like it, then I say go for it.
You could also shift that D-G pup and make a new pick guard, no?

Yep, I could do that. I think I will. Played it tonight at church and it sounded rad.

This one is the 3.5, which Lace lists as a 4 or 5 string pickup.

It probably means the length is 3.5".

Yes!
Build something simple that holds the pickup above the strings. Connect the pickup. Now you can try.

And I too think the Lace Alumitone Bass Bar is a fantastic pickup.

You also have to check the split option of the bass bar! A lot of highs and no hum and nearly the same output.

So, how about that bass that I didn’t quite finish a year ago?

Turns out the clear coat wouldn’t cure properly, so it stayed soft. I wanted to switch out the pickup for a set of soap bars too, so I decided to strip and refinish it in Contessa Gold. I’m pretty happy with how it all turned out, and it plays like a dream! I chose Nordstrand Big Splits and am really stoked with the tone.

thanks! I’ve always wanted a gold bass, and I happened to be spraying a guitar in this colour and loved how it turned out.

My shop vac is LOUD, so I'm thinking that will be the next upgrade in the workshop, picking something a bit quieter for this job.

One option is the same shop vac, on the other side of the wall, connected to some plumbing to get the vacuum where you need it.

I did, too. …and I was also struck with the idea of something looking like dogs balls (other than a dog’s balls, of course).
