Scammed?

I think you -Rabidhamster- misunderstood the picture.
My name is Stanton, and it's the seller telling me his luthier gave him the photos.
-which were downloaded from the web.

I wanted to sell the bass locally. and maybe this is just me (I am an acoustic guitar player, lead worship services).
before I sell/trade my acoustic guitars, I always have it setup. doesn't matter who I sell it to.

I guess it's not a common thing in bass community.

In addition, don't you think it's odd that the photos his luthier took to show the date stamps were actually downloaded from the web?
It's America, you can stand whichever side.

Also, my shipdate is in October, so I have some time before I go.
will be playing Clarinet, I guess that's why I have such long period of waiting.

I finally decided to purchase the bass right after checking those date stamp photos. because those were the most viable proof that it was the Fullerton Era.

I'm not trying to take anyone to court, ruin someone's life for one greedy mistake they made in life.
but I just wanted to hear what would be the best way to resolve this problem.

You should have checked everything when you got the bass. If everything is as you say it is, you have been scammed. I can't find a Fullerton Jazz bass should around October 2015. Did you buy it through TalkBass classifieds?

There's probably not much you can do unless it was an honest mistake. If the seller did scam you, why would they want to make it right 2 years later?

Definitely report the seller to the mods though so that this won't happen to anyone else.

It's been two years. Whatever's wrong with the bass isn't the seller's responsibility any more. Hope everything goes okay with your grandfather.

Um no. Time does not negate that there is a high possibility that someone using this forum pulled a fast one.

Hmm. Not being a collector I'm not sure what the significance is of being "Fullerton era" or not. Obviously you got hosed, if you're telling the truth. What's the difference in value between your actual bass and what you thought you had?

Whether you lost a lot of money or not, it's worth outing the obvious scam artist seller, but in the grand scheme of things, are we talking a couple hundred dollars? Thousands?

Not sure what the statute of limitation would be in this case. Reality is that it's too small of a monetary amount for police to care. They'll say it's a contract dispute. So you go to small claims court, the seller doesn't show, you win the case and can never collect on the win. If it were discovered when the buyer received the bass, then you could engage PayPal to make things right.

I wasn't very clear:
I am not advocating for the OP to take legal action against the seller, frankly that would be a waste of money. I am advocating for the OP to report the seller to the mods and get the seller's side the story so that hopefully something like this doesn't happen again.

Just because 2 years have passed shouldn't mean that the seller should get away with it. If they did scam the OP then they should be banned from the classifieds so that this doesn't happen again.

This just got interesting... there is a 3rd picture of the neck heal in the seller's photo bucket account....

I generally agree, but in this case, did the seller scam the buyer or did the luthier send bogus pics? Or are those pics from the same store where the luthier works and he sent the wrong pics causing all of this? If the seller truly screwed over the buyer, I don't think this would have been the only time they would have done that. Basically, I guess I need more info before I call for a banning. But that is certainly a possibility.

I don't want to mention who it is, since I want to make sure before I do anything about this. yet.

It's a long story, but let me briefly explain.

I have purchased a "Fullerton Era" jazz bass off of this forum about two years ago from this guy for my granddad. The bass has been sitting in the case most of the time until now -since my grandpa is so young, he only plays around so much. but due to his medical bills, and since I will be joining the military, we decided to sell it. that's when we figured out the bass is not from the Fullerton era.

Prior to buying, I asked him to send me pictures of bass and the stamps inside.
I was able to get all the pictures. but little that I knew, the stamp pictures were taken from below website -I just have discovered this when I searched for it.
1982 83 Fender Jazz bass Reissue

I wanted to get it setup before I sell the bass, then discovered the issue.
below are the actual pictures of my bass, no stamps at all.

I actually don't even know what type of bass this one is, I had it on the classified section,
but took it down since this is not a Fullerton.

I thought maybe the seller was not aware of what type of bass he had, but after looking at the stamp pictures he downloaded from the website, it is clear that he wanted to send me the wrong bass.

What am I supposed to do?
My granddad is at the hospital, so do not want to ask him about this at the moment.

Please let me know..
Thank you in advance.
Well those are 2 completely different necks, for sure. Id be interested to see the body also. The internet pics show some pretty unique grain on the back of the body. Does yours have the same grain pattern?
It might be easy for a seller to claim they had no knowledge that the neck was not the same in the pics. But that grain pattern? Not so much. If the seller endorsed those pics as the actual bass up for sale, then sent you a different bass, i would feel that was intentional.
Does the original seller have negative feedback?

Kinda looks like the numbers coulda rubbed off?
Maybe after taking the neck off, while popping it back on something happened.

How does the rest of the bass colors to the pictures he originally sent you?
Does the color match, the grain of the wood, any dings, etc.

I'm with you, but you should make sure before jumping to conclusions. Also, even if there is no date it could be a Fullerton, some didn't have the date written in, or the pencil does rub off!

Always check everything out when you buy online, I learned that the hard way. One time I bought a Gibson les Paul on eBay and didn't bother checking it; months later I found out all the electronics and hardware were Chinese epiphone.

I was checking out the woodgrain on the neckheels in the OP. They fo different directions. The fullerton is diagonal, while the OP's neck has rounded grain. Also where the truss rod screw touches the fret board is different.

It's not about pencil marks getting erased....

@RichSnyder
I tried my best to make sure the bass is legit, but if seller sent you photos that proofs the bass to be legit, you would trust.
thought that's what we do here. but thank you.
Well...those are certainly pics of a different bass.
Hey those pics that you linked to...did the seller send you all those pics, or is that just what you found on the internet?
