The Chinese also rip off custom knifemakers. They have people that follow the American custom knife scene, go to shows, take pictures and steal the desigs from the popular makers. Then they have them mass produced. Nothing SUCKS worse than seeing a CHEAP, POS copy of your design, in a bowl, on the counter at a gas station for 2 for 5 Bucks

Those cheap, POS basses are probably painted with TOXIC lead paint

I would presume that these are made from the same people in China who were selling exact copies of Gibson Les Pauls on eBay starting at a $1.00, shipping usually ran about $200.00
I think eBay has banned them now from selling but they were there for a few years.

Some people bought them and were very happy but others have said that they received junk.

These are for the people who only care about having the "Real" logo on their copy.

I would think that they are no better or worse than any other copy.

This should also be a warning that these guitar and basses can also be sold as the real thing. They are impossible to tell the difference from looks alone.

Be 100% sure you getting an authentic item by checking pickups, serial #'s (even though they can be copied from real serial#'s).

Lastly, the chances of these Rics having the classic Ric tone are slim to none.

Why would you assume that?

Unlike companies like OLP and earlier Univox and Greco, etc., which made copies of basses (legally or otherwise), these guys are just about taking your money. I doubt you would even receive a bass for your trouble. And if you did, I'd bet it wouldn't be playable. The tip off is the fact that they only accept Western Union and money transfers. They get their money, you get screwed.

The others were all about money too, but at least they built a bass that was reasonably playable and was affordable. Look at the OLP MM copies and the Ric copies. These guys are not going to give you the same quality.

Yup, China makes pretty much everything we ever use and therefore has the capability to copy everything we ever use, apart from a few sleak guitars, some cutlery and New Balance running trainers... but not the casual wear ones.

Apparently these copies (of everything) end up being sold to high street shops, even official outlet shops, and we buy it. To be honest they're so good at copying stuff that you wouldn't know the difference alot of the time. The conditions the copies are made often aren't great and where making the originals isn't exactly like working for Google or Pixar studios or anything.

Going back to some old school lessons, but China "circle patents" everything. I mean everything. This means at some point during a products development or something like that, China patents everything "just sorta kinda like it" and that is how they are able to make EVERYTHING. And it looks just like the real thing. Slight differences in wood, or shape, or something beyond what most would notice and it works!

My economics professor is likely rolling in his grave with my hack-job on what was probably a stellar lecture. :scowl:
