What I'm reading says it's how they were wired. The last owner said that these have a hidden trim pot somewhere kinda like the Spectors have in the control cavity. So you know if this is true and if so what it controls? Thanks!

I don’t have that models so I can’t tell you personally. I can say preamp trim pots that I have seen, like in Bart or Nordstrand Preamps is to for gain control.

I really looked around in there and I'm not seeing anything. I remember having a Hohner headless bass that had a gain control but it was pretty obvious. That was an EMG preamp much like the Schecter I have. Good news is that it sounds great and I have a lot of tone control for it being a 2 band.

I have a stiletto studio 4 ( not sure if tha is what yours is but a 5) ,
But mine doesn’t have the trim pots inside the cavity

Hey, Schecter folks. I've recently been looking at grabbing a current production C-5 standard to the ends of continuing my 5-string string-spacing journey/experiment, and to play some down-tuned covers with (drop C# and such). It pretty much fits the bill, but online reviews seem to be quite sparse for this model. Wanted to see if anyone here has had any experience with it and what your thoughts are on it.

They use the C-5 as a “general” model identifier.
However all C-5 are great for drop tuning and the 35” versus a common 34” helps.

I have the cheap ones and the high end SLS ones…They are solid workhorses.

Thanks. I'm looking at the cheapest one, currently available at $499, before I commit to this hardware configuration and spring for an SLS model or something. The evil twin and the Berthoud models look interesting.

The Hellraiser is my personal favorite. (Not a fan of the adolescent name), However I have fan that it has a Spector growl type vibe and the neck feels great. I actually give it the edge a little over the SLS Evil Twin. The neck is a little fuller on the Hellraiser.

I own a hellraiser and two other 5 string schecters in 35 inch scale. Last few years I used all 3 of them in a metalband in standard 3 seminotes down tuning with no problems at all. If you like the feel of the neck and the string spacing, go for it. Mine are Korean made and built like a tank.

Anyone have experience with the Stiletto Pro EX 4 string? I’ve had mine for about 6 months and, contemplating selling it. For such a relatively pricey bass that’s advertised for heavy music, I’ve had no luck getting a good sound in a band setting.

Ordered 2 sets of Fishman Fluence pickups/preamps for my Stiletto Studios. I've discovered that (ime, wood can matter) mahogany bodies with a mostly maple neck, paired with the Fishman system in single-coil mode, sound eerily close to a God-like Spector tone. I discovered this from an ESP LTD F-1005 that I previously owned (forearm contour was uncomfortable). Ash bodies don't have the same ooomph, but alder is decent.

Contemplating getting a 35" 5-string. The Schecter Omen Extreme 5 looked interesting. I didn't find much on this bass in a search of TB. Any comments or review of this anyone willing to offer? How would you characterize the sound?

Any other suggestions <$1500 for a 35" 5 I should consider?

I had a Stage-5 and couldn’t get along with the closer string spacing. Other than that, it was a great quality instrument. The neck feel was phenomenal. A couple years later, I ended up with a ESP-LTD AP-5 and it remains the only 5 string I play.

In the past, I’ve been not good at playing a 5, so haven’t bought them. My only 5s have been a Yamaha BB735a which I still have and a Sterling Ray35 (moved on.) Neither impressed me with the B string. No doubt I could find a better string to use on the 735.

So with the thought that I should really practice and get better on 5s, started thinking about the B sound and whether a 35” would help. That led me to a search on SW, and the Omen Extreme. I didn’t consider string spacing. Thanks for mentioning that.

I prefer my 4-stringers. The only way for me to be proficient with the 5-string is to put away the others and only use it. Currently, that’s where I’m at with only using the 5’er because I’m working on material in D# and don’t like to down-tune.
Regarding 34” vs 35” B-string, I don’t really have enough experience to comment aside from saying my 34” B-string performs as advertised and don’t hear a need for 35”.

I really like the B-string on my Stilletto Studio-5 which is a 35”. If you are particular about B string tension, besides finding the right strings, a 35” scale is nice to have.

The members of Jawbox have always had at least one Schecter on stage, for as long as I can remember. In this video, it's a newish guitar model and a classic bass from the 90s. Shame about the audio.

Curious, what strings do you 35" stringthru schecter owners use? Only options I really see for super long scales are odd sets from EB, daddario, DR and ken smiths. I love the smiths but they are impossible to get in my country.

Standard DR string length, 37 and 3/4 '', worked just fine for me on an SLS Evil Twin 5 which I regretfully sold.

Well, I went ahead and ordered the Omen Extreme 5, its still in transit. I'll post once received. SW only had the natural maple in stock, but offered the Black Cherry color as a "We can get it!". Schecter also makes a burst color scheme that SW doesn't offer. GC/MF does carry that color, I wonder if it's one of their exclusive colors. In any case, I ordered the burst direct from Schecter.

The natural maple comes with gold hardware, which I don't like. The other colors have black chrome. I went back & forth on it a bunch before deciding.
