Schecter P-4 / J-4 Exotic

I just saw these on Sweetwater's website today.
I'm not in the market but damn, what a set of handsome basses! Very sharp & smart.
Great sounding. Solid bass. Had it for one week and I like it a lot. I have the P4.
Does anyone know what happened to these? They disappeared from the face of the earth after a few months and the Js are not even listed at major retailers.
I bought a J-4 Exotic and it sounds great! Running it through a Peavey Max 300 at home during practice sessions with the band. You can get really nice Jaco-tones and awesome slap tones as well. I just changed the strings from Rotosound roundwounds to flatwounds to hear the difference and really like the sound out of them both.
I just got a used J-4 exotic today and it’s beautiful!
I have a question about the EMG pups, though. Is it expected to have a fair bit of noise (hiss-like noise, as if an OD or distortion pedal is in the chain) when playing a note with the high eq knob turned up, even if only to center?
Not a fan of the noise, but will feel better knowing if it’s normal behavior for active pups like these or if it’s something I should remedy.

Yeah, I’m more suspicious of the pot or EQ itself at this point. I can turn the knob up quite a bit with just a little noise but near the upper limit it gets pretty bad.
