SCHECTER.

I don't have an Extreme but an Elite, I have tried the Extreme though - you can see my Elite on my user pic. Schecter basses are pretty underrated imo, pretty good players. I have to ask, are you buying it new or used? Reason why I'm asking is that buying a used one saves you a lot of money- Schecter basses take a major hit when resold so while you may be able to buy a new one for $400, a used one in great condition could sell for around $250 or less. In fact, you could buy a used Custom or an Elite for not that much more. I bought mine for $200. The Custom and Elite have the EMG-HZ pickups, the Elite is a neck thru.
In other words, Schecter basses are a great deal if bought used.
I like the playability of the bass, the neck has a nice feel to it- it's thin, it has the 2 band EQ but I have to say, I do miss that Mid EQ and really probably should have bought a Studio as that would have given me a little more tonal flexibility but I do use a lot of mid tones for my bass playing so that may not be applicable to you. Given the price I paid though, I'm not complaining-it sounds good regardless. The weight is about average, so it won't kill your back.

I would highly recommend going to a music store and trying one out first though- ultimately, it comes down to how the bass feels and sounds to you.

This Helped me quirlte a bit, thank you.

I don't know if you specifically want the Stiletto design but Schecter has a clearance outlet on their own website. Some good deals there too-good to check every now and then. Brand new basses with free shipping.
There's currently this. Going for the same price as the Stiletto Extreme, but this is the C-4 Custom.
It has the EMG-HZ pickups plus that extra EQ Mid knob. Pretty nice deal for a brand new one.

Alright you guys, Im going to soon make an Important Decision on bass buying. The one Ive most considered Is the Schecter Extreme Stiletto 4. Does anyone on TB have any experience with these?

I picked one up in a Guitar Center last summer before I tripped over what I eventually bought, and I liked it a lot.

I started out wanting either an Ibanez SR300 or the Schecter you’re talking about.

The Schecter (to me) had a very similar profile and thin neck almost identical to the Ibanez, and it felt really good in my hands with a great balance & sound to it.

Of course a few weeks later I walked into a pawn shop just on a whim, and walked out with my new baby that I'll keep for life. (an ESP B-104)

I think the Schecter's are very nice basses and the build quality is super sharp.

I wouldn't foresee you having any issues or regretting buying one if that's what you ultimately choose......

Schecter is a very good company, even their low end stuff is really nice. I was seconds away from pulling the trigger on the bass you speak of but ended up going with a Iby SRA550 a few years ago.
Most that I've played are similar to Ibanez necks. I really wanted a Riot Session 5 but bought a Peavey T-40 instead. Now I gotta sell something.

This is the best advice you could give someone considering picking up an extreme, very accurate on all accounts.

I have done a ton of gigs on Schecters in the past, and the EMG equipped stuff is good as it gets in it's price range. The diamond pickups are not so great, but the EMGs cover a lot of tonal area. I'd hit it ;)

Schecters are great for the price point and they play really good! I have Stiletto Custom-4, Hellraiser Extreme -4 , Stiletto Studio-4, Omen-8, Stargazer-4 and a Stiletto extreme -4. The Stiletto extreme is my least favorite as it doesn't have EMG's. It come with Schecter brand p/u's which are not great. Get one equipped with EMG's and you will be very happy

Couldn't recommend the Stiletto Studio enough, especially the fretless. If you can find one used under $400, it's a wrap /. The Extreme is great too, but from my personal standpoint (100% opinion, 0 empirical evidence) the Studio feels better. As nebulous as that statement is.

The Studio is probably the Stiletto to aim for. I would take a used Studio over a new Extreme anyday. The EMG pickups, neckthru, bridge-all these improvements make a big difference imo. Nothing wrong with the Extreme mind you, but if that same money you're willing to shell out for a new Extreme can get you a used Studio (Best), Elite (Good), Custom (Good), that's the route I would recommend.

I've owned a couple Schecters in the past, and they're great basses! I almost pulled the plug on a Studio 6, but found a Spector at a price I couldn't refuse. I think the Studio's going to be my next bass though. An like Maxdusty said, I'd go with a used Studio over a new Extreme any day of the week.
