School dress code

My school has just put in place a new dress code that prohibits pencil skirts, skinny jeans and pants with holes in them.

97 people got sent home today because they weren't "dressed appropriately".

So far there has been one HUGE Facebook riot (400+ people joined it and lots commented then the group got shut down after 20 minutes) and tons of posts bashing the school an the new policies.

Any other schools out there doing something as drastic?

unfortunately whats described here has nothing to do with self respect, and seems to be nothing but rules for the sake of rules.

im no fashion-freak, but stopping kids from going with current (and harmless) trends, to me, is ridiculous. what are they gaining from these rules being in place?

We never had a dress code back when I was in High School, but they definitely tossed the idea around. I have known people though who went to public HS and had a dress code; I'm not normally one that's for a dress code in school, but with some of the crap that kids are wearing these days I really can't blame the school for implementing a dress code. Hell, someone's got to show these kids how to dress decently if the parents aren't going to...

I honestly don't feel that these trends are harmless; things like pencil skirts and yoga pants aren't things that should be worn by girls that age...they're considered too form-fitting and revealing. Jeans with holes in them just make you look like a ratty-ass hobo or a wanna-be 80s rocker washout...

As for skinny jeans -- NO self-respecting man should even consider wearing them, and I'm not the only one with that opinion. I mean, c'mon...it looks like the kid swiped his 12yr old sister's pants. And to top that, they try and 'sag' them like it's cool or something. *smh*

So yeah, I can understand and I think in this instance agree with the school's decision for a dress code. It's not making a rule just for the sake of making rules.

The school I work at as to wear a blue polo purchased from the school, black, blue or khaki pants, black shoes, black socks and a black belt.

No earrings or other jewelry other than watches.
Shirts have to be tucked in and all close have to fit.
You cannot carry a book bag and to top it all off you have to wear your school ID with a prison like photo on it around your neck.

Often times you can;t leave the classroom to piss without an escort.
Oh and even high school kids move class to class in what can only be considered as a chain gang type single file line.

Think your school is bad?

"Rally the troops on the Internet, we're going to accomplish NOTHING!"

Skinny jeans look stupid
Pant's with holes, sure, stopping looking like crap.

Hi.

They're adults, You're not.

They set the rules, You obey.

Get over it

When You grow up, you can be the one setting the rules, if You're lucky ;).

If You grow up to be one of the unlucky mundanes on the lower links of the food chain, there'll aways be someone controlling your life against your will. Then You have to get over that as well. Good luck.

:D, how true.

Stealing music and movies also required to physically shop-lift 'em, now it's just on ones fingertips by a click of the mouse.

Those were the days...

What are these kids going to do when they enter the real world and have a dress code at work? Complain on the Internet further ruining their opportunities later in life?

If I was the person in charge of hiring, the first thing I would do is weed out all the applicants that deem it necessary to complain about everything on facebook.

My school (along with virtually every other in the UK) didn't have a dress code. We had a uniform.

Black shoes (smart)
Black socks
Black trousers (if you wanted a belt, it was black leather with a plain gold or silver buckle)
White shirt (tucked in, buttoned all the way)
Tie in school colours (black with thin red diagonal stripes)
Black blazer with school badge
(Optional - black V neck jumper with school badge)


None of us were any worse off for it.




EDIT: Just found this pic of some kids from my school on google. The blue tie means something special, but I don't remember what.

My school was relaxed about the dress code. I even wore a Pig Destroyer shirt to school (the album Terrifyer), and nobody even batted an eyelash.

It was also a (not getting into a discussion here) Catholic school.

Apparently after I left, they banned wife beater/muscle shirts on guys. ...A school that gets to be about 6 degrees hotter than the outside, and they ban them.
